In addition to saying that Marvel wouldn't be showing up at Comic-Con 2015, writer-director James Gunn took a variety of questions during a Facebook Q&A this weekend. While he didn't come anywhere close to revealing new characters who will be showing up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, he did confirm that Captain Marvel won't be appearing in the highly-anticipated sequel. When asked who his ideal actress would be for the role, he replied, "I don't know. I don't think about casting movie characters who aren't in my movies."

It's easy to speculate that Captain Marvel would show up in GOTG 2 since the character's origin story has NASA Security Director Carol Danvers becoming a Kree/human hybrid, and the Kree were introduced in Guardians via Ronan, a Kree fanatic. But if she's not showing up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which opens May 5, 2017, where will she end up?

Captain Marvel is due to hit theaters on November 2, 2018, so if she's going to be introduced in an earlier Marvel film, the options are Avengers: Age of Ultron (if Marvel was able to shoot, cast, and keep it all under wraps for this long, kudos to them), Ant-Man (which is looking incredibly self-contained), Captain America: Civil War (a film that's already adding Black Panther and Spider-Man to the MCU), Doctor Strange (a movie presumably focused more on the mystical than the cosmic), Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, the untitled Spider-Man movie, and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1. Of all those options, Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War seem the most likely candidates.

Moving on from Captain Marvel, Gunn also revealed these interesting tidbits during his Q&A:

- Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will shoot in Atlanta. The first film shot in England. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be the third Marvel movie to film in Atlanta following Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War. Marvel has been switching between Pinewood in London and Pinewood in Atlanta, so based on the trade-off schedule I assume Doctor Strange will be filming in London.

- Because the movie is filming in Atlanta, there will be major crew changes.

- Nebula (Karen Gillen), Yondu (Michael Rooker), and Kraglin (Sean Gunn) will return.

- He has no interest in directing Avengers: Infinity War.

- He's producing an unnamed film he wrote, and they just hired a director.

- Gunn would love to do a Squirrel Girl movie.

- If he could do any comic book movie outside of Marvel, it would be Grant Morrison's We3, which is about a genetically modified dog, cat, and rabbit who are trained by the government to be killing machines.

- Has a big movie he wants to do outside of Marvel, but it might take a while.
