Lashana Lynch has already had major roles in shows like the Shonda Rhimes-produced Still Star-Crossed and the Sky One series Bulletproof, but she’s about to hit the big screen in a big way with Captain Marvel. She steps in as Maria Rambeau, an Air Force pilot who’s also Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) best friend. Maria thought Carol was long gone, but winds up experiencing quite the emotional whirlwind when she steps back into her life. Complicating the situation further, not only is Carol back safe and sound, but she’s also returned to Earth with a number of out-of-this-world powers.
With Captain Marvel making its way into theaters on March 8th, I got the chance to chat with Lynch and dig into her wild ride joining one of the biggest film franchises out there. We discussed the unprecedented MCU female friendship Maria shares with Carol, what it was like working with one of her younger co-stars, Akira Akbar who plays her daughter Monica, watching Ben Mendelsohn embrace the Skrull lifestyle through song, something about herself that’s so bizarre a Skrull couldn’t even come up with it, and more. You can give all of that a watch using the video player at the top of this article!
Here’s the official synopsis for Captain Marvel:
