Now that people are finally getting their eyes on Captain Marvel, first reactions are flying on to the internet higher, further, and faster than you'd imagine. There's been a ton of hype focused in the film's direction; even though the Brie Larson-starring action flick is an MCU prequel set in the 1990s, it's also the last stop between the Earth-snapping cliffhanger in Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers: Endgame. Plus, it acts as the official introduction to Larson's Carol Danvers—teased in Infinity War's end-credits scene—one of the most powerful characters in Marvel history and, most likely, the one who is on her way to save all our asses come Endgame time.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel also stars Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, and Djimon Hounsou. Lee Pace will reprise his Ronan the Accuser role from the first Guardians of the Galaxy, while Ben Mendelsohn will don heavy prosthetics to play the film's Big Bad, a Skrull named Talos.

The first reactions are, unsurprisingly, out of this world. Larson apparently kicks the expected amount of ass as Carol Danvers, but what has me truly excited is how weird this movie sounds. Marvel films occasionally fall into that familiar formula, but surprises like Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok are what keep me coming back to that universe. Captain Marvel seems to fit into that mold, a deep-space adventure that people are using words like "trippy" and "ambitious to describe. Plus, Ben Mendelsohn apparently steals the show, and I'm always here for a Mendelsohn party.

Full reviews of Captain Marvel won't be available until March 5, but you can check out the first, immediate reactions below. The film hits theaters on March 8.
