During last night’s series finale of Breaking Bad, AMC ran an extended TV spot for Paul Greengrass’ new dramatic thriller, Captain PhillipsTom Hanks plays the eponymous captain whose vessel, a container ship, was attacked by Somali pirates in 2009.  I saw the film at NYFF last week, and was a little let down by it, so this TV spot doesn’t do anything for me.  For the most part, it’s not misleading, and it doesn’t really give anything away.  As I said in my review, Captain Phillips is probably better if you’re unaware of Richard Phillips’ fate.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spot.  Captain Phillips opens October 11th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Captain Phillips:

Columbia Pictures’ action-thriller Captain Phillips stars two-time Oscar® winner Tom Hanks in the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. The film is directed by Oscar® nominee Paul Greengrass, from a screenplay by Billy Ray and based upon the book, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, by Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty. The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca.
