Carey Mulligan to Star in Coen Bros.’ INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS and Spike Jonze’s Next Film

     October 20, 2011

The immensely talented Carey Mulligan has just landed herself two pretty great roles. Variety reports that Mulligan will star in the Coen Bros.’ next project Inside Llewyn Davis as well as Spike Jonze’s next pic. Oscar Isaac was recently announced as the lead in Inside Llewyn Davis. The film centers on a musician trying to make it in the 1960s New York folk scene. No other details are known at this time, but their True Grit and No Country for Old Men producer Scott Rudin is onboard to produce once again, and the Brothers Coen expertly infused O Brother, Where Art Thou? with bluegrass so it’s safe to say that this one looks pretty fantastic. Mulligan’s involvement makes the project that much sweeter.

Hit the jump for the details on Spike Jonze’s new untitled project written by Charlie Kaufman.

carey-mulligan-imageAdditionally, Mulligan is in negotiations to star in the new untitled Spike Jonze project. The satire reportedly centers on world leaders who unite to discuss cataclysmic events such as oil prices and wars. Joaquin Phoenix is attached to star, and Jonze’s Being John Malkovich scribe Charlie Kaufman wrote the screenplay. There’s no word on what kind of role Mulligan will be taking on, but with a Kaufman script roles are rarely easy to succinctly describe. The actress is currently filming Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby in Australia. Inside Llewyn Davis will shoot in February, and the plan is for Mulligan to jump right into the Spike Jonze project later next Spring.

Decent actress, but why does every photo of her look like she’s in serious pain? Her eyes, her pout…it’s like she’s struggling just to stay alive for the next – gasp – photo shoot. Oh, the agony…

I guess it’s better than that Twilight chick, who just looks drunk. Which would you prefer?
