Screen Gems has released the first images from Kimberly Peirce‘s new adaptation of Stephen King‘s Carrie.  Of course, there could be no better image than the signature scene of the eponymous bullied telepath (this time played by the talented Chloe Moretz) drenched in blood.  Moretz tells EW that when it came to filming the scene, “We only have, like, four chances to get it right because that stuff stains your hair.”  EW also has the first image of Julianne Moore as Carrie’s abusive, religious mother.  As opposed to Brian De Palma‘s classic 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, the remake will reportedly focus on the relationship between Carrie and her mother.  While there’s not much to gleam from these two images, Peirce definitely has two incredibly talented actresses in the lead roles, so I’m curious to see how this new take will play out.

Hit the jump to check out the images along with what Moore had to say about her character.  Carrie hits theaters on March 13, 2013.

Here’s what Moore told Entertainment Weekly about Carrie’s mother, Margaret White:

“This woman has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps several,” says Moore. “But what’s sad about it for me is that she’s clearly sick and here’s this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill. And on top of that, they have this mother-daughter relationship. So we want to make that relationship as meaningful as possible, even though it is horrible and destructive.”
