Disney has released the teaser trailer for Cars 2.  The trailer does a good job of laying out the premise–Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) go on a World Grand Prix but get involved in world-saving intrigue.  And we also get a look at new car, “Finn McMissile” (pictured above) who I am 95% sure is voiced by Michael Caine (or it’s Rob Brydon doing his amazing impression).  While nothing in the teaser really jumped out at me, I’m sure kids who have fallen in love with Cars will go nuts for this trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer plus five new images.  Cars 2 opens in 3D on June 24, 2011.

Here’s the official synopsis for Cars 2.

Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in Cars 2 when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.  Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world.  Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.

John Lasseter returns to the driver’s seat to direct this follow-up to his 2006 Golden Globe®-winning Cars. Cars 2 is co-directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®-winning film Ratatouille, and produced by visual effects industry veteran Denise Ream (associate producer, Up; visual effects executive producer, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith). The film hits the track on June 24, 2011 in the US.

I can’t wait for this one. My 3 year old is obsessed with the first. Finally there will come a time when I don’t have to watch the 1st one several times a week.

i for one, think this trailer does look like it might be atleast better then the first film for sure, which i thought was mediocre. Im still gonna wait for one more trailer before i say if i think its gonna be good or not.

this one looks definitly ALOT better then the first film. Its got some James Bond feel to it, its got violence, especially that whole scene with the green car smashing into a blue car who is apparantly shooting the green car, it looks alot funnier ” British intelligence” “cole mator, average intelligence” ahahahaha, and it seems to have a better story. Now…will it have emotional depth? i do not know. if it has emotional depth then FOR SURE this film will be a huge hit, with everyone, and not just the kids.

Anyways, My 3 year old should enjoy this, and I should too since I wont have to watch the first one 10 times a week anymore.
