To sum it up in just a few words: passion, adventure, intrigue, betrayal, sex, danger, romance, guns, cigarettes, special effects and slaps. Hit the jump for more on Casa de mi Padre.

Will Ferrell CASA DE MI PADRE imageFinanced entirely by NALA Films, Casa de mi Padre “pays homage to classic westerns and telenovelas.” Steve got to sit down with Ferrell earlier this year to talk about his projects, including this one. Here’s one of Ferrell’s quotes regarding Casa de mi Padre:

“It’s like a telenovela and at times it’s Quentin Tarantinoesque and it has a little bit of Robert Rodriguez. It’s all of that mixed in with a poorly made movie where you see mistakes. You can see the boom mic in the reflections of someone’s sunglasses.”

So to me it sounds like a Spanish-language version of the mock-Blaxploitation film Black Dynamite and I am all for that, especially if Ferrell’s involved. But Casa de mi Padre, directed by Matt Piedmont (Saturday Night Live) also features the talents of Diego Luna (Y Tu Mama Tambien) Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite), Adrian Martinez (Kick-Ass), Pedro Armendáriz Jr. (The Mask of Zorro) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation). Adding even more star power is four-time Grammy award winner Christina Aguilera who will sing the original title track, written by Andrew Steele and Patrick Perez.

In regards to the acquisition, Piedmont had this to say:

“Will, Andrew and I are excited to have Pantelion distribute the movie — especially since our collective knowledge of the Spanish language amounts to what we learned during a half-hour Learning Annex class taken the night before production of the film began. We loved collaborating with NALA to make this movie and now can’t wait to have it released. Pantelion and NALA are the perfect team to get it out there.”

At the announcement of the acquisition, Pantelion Films CEO Paul Presburger addressed the idea of transcending language barriers with comedy:

“We cannot imagine a better vehicle than Casa de mi Padre to demonstrate how a Spanish language film can appeal to a broad main stream audience. We are enthusiastic about joining forces with NALA Films on this project and feel that Will, Matt and Andrew have proven that if it’s funny, we all laugh in the same language.”

NALA Films President and COO Darlene Caamano Loquet seemed to echo that sentiment:

“We are thrilled about partnering with Pantelion to bring CASA DE MI PADRE to all audiences. Comedy has no barriers, and that can be seen in the terrific performances and work delivered by this international cast and creative team.”
