As we reported earlier today, the fourth Mission: Impossible will be a reboot of sorts for the series. While the film won’t be team-based, that doesn’t mean there’s no room for a young female operative. Deadline reports that actresses Lauren German (Happy Town), Paula Patton (Precious), and Kristin Kreuk (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) have all tested for the part. Tom Cruise will star alongside Jeremy Renner. Ving Rhames is set to return and Simon Pegg is in talks to reprise his role as Benji Dunn. Paramount also reportedly met with Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), but it’s unknown whether it was for the role of the female operative or a different part. The new Mission: Impossible film comes out December 16, 2011.

John Cusack has tweeted that he’s been cast as Edgar Allen Poe in James McTeigue’s The Raven. McTeigue described the premise of the film as “It’s like the poem, ‘The Raven’, itself, crossed with Se7en.” Jeremy Renner signed on to the film back in February, but it’s unknown whether he’s still attached in light of his commitments to Mission: Impossible, Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master.
Finally, Ari Graynor (Whip It) has been cast in David Gordon Green’s The Sitter. Deadline reports that she’ll play the female lead opposite Jonah Hill. Hill will play a college student who’s been suspended for the semester and as a result is living at home with his mother. He gets talked into babysitting the neighbor’s two boys and 8 year old girls and hijinks ensue. Filming is set to begin this fall.

I have to admit not being familiar with the other ladies involved, so I would be most interested to see Kristin get the role. I believe she can do both the acting and any martial arts work that may be needed.
