The first trailer for the Sundance hit Ain’t Them Bodies Saints has been released online. The film centers on a young outlaw couple played by Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck who are apprehended by the law and must deal with the consequences of their actions, Affleck’s character escapes prison years later and sets out to find his lover and daughter in 1970s Texas Hill Country. Writer/director David Lowery’s debut feature drew positive reviews and comparisons to the work of Terrence Malick at Sundance, and after watching this trailer it’s not hard to see why. Not only is his visual style eloquent and poetic, but the story almost feels like a spin on Malick’s Badlands. The trailer promises a slew of fine performances and a nuanced, character-centric story, and I’m eager to catch the full film when it hits theaters.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and click here to read Matt’s positive review from Sundance. The film also stars Ben Foster and Keith Carradine. Ain’t Them Bodies Saints opens on August 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints:
Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. But four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration.

The best film I've seen so far this year is Joshua Oppenheimer's The Act of Killing. Produced by Werner Herzog and Errol Morris, the documentary focuses on executioners from 1965-66 Indonesia who were allowed to murder practically anyone they wanted, and are still treated as heroes today. Because of their utter lack of remorse, Oppenheimer asks them to direct recreations of their atrocities. The trailer hints at the dark and twisted plot without giving away too much. But even by showing scenes from near the end of the movie, this is a film that can't be spoiled. No trailer can recreate the absolutely chilling experience of watching this documentary.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, and click here to read my review from SXSW. The Act of Killing opens July 19th.

Via The Film Stage.

Here's the official synopsis for The Act of Killing:
In this chilling and inventive documentary, executive produced by Errol Morris (The Fog of War) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), the filmmakers examine a country where death squad leaders are celebrated as heroes, challenging them to reenact their real-life mass killings in the style of the American movies they love. The hallucinatory result is a cinematic fever dream, an unsettling journey deep into the imaginations of mass murderers and the shockingly banal regime of corruption and impunity they inhabit. Shaking audiences at the 2012 Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals, The Act of Killing is an unprecedented film and, according to the Los Angeles Times, “could well change how ...

Xbox unveiled its brand new game console earlier this week, and as part of the announcement, a new game from Bungie and Activision was teased. The team behind Halo is launching a new franchise called Destiny, and a live-action trailer for the game has been released online. In the world of the game, the hero is a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth following the arrival of “the Traveler.” This live-action/CG trailer, directed by Jon Favreau, stars Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Revolution) as a Guardian of the City who is recalling an important life lesson he once learned. The trailer essentially gives Favreau the chance to make the Star Wars film he never could, but I’m interested to see more from the game.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Gameplay from Destiny will be unveiled at the E3 press conference on June 10th.

Head over to Destiny’s official website for more info.

A new trailer has been released for Ron Howard's racing drama, Rush. The film takes place in the world of Formula One racing, and chronicles the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth). The previous trailer basically showed the entire movie, but thankfully this one focuses on the speed of F1 racing and aggressiveness of the drivers. Clearly, the movie won't shy away from the personal drama of the lead characters, but I'm curious to see how Howard has handled the intensity of the racing scenes. Judging by this trailer, he's done a bang-up job.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Olivia Wilde. Rush opens September 20th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Rush:
Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, RUSH portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy James Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Niki Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, RUSH follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error.

The first red-band and green-band trailers for America's newest dysfunctional family in We're the Millers is now available for you to enjoy. The Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball) film centers on a single, small-time pot dealer (Jason Sudeikis) who ends up in debt to his supplier (Ed Helms). In order to bring the next shipment of drugs up from Mexico, he puts together a fake family from his stripper neighbor (Jennifer Aniston), an eager teen (Will Poulter) and a streetwise punk (Emma Roberts).

This red-band trailer features Aniston stripping, Sudeikis' impersonation of Bane, Helms' choice in aquatic pets, spider bites and Aniston stripping again. The green-band trailer is obviously tamer but features slightly different footage and jokes. The first look at We're the Millers promises lots of laughs derived from this zany premise. Also starring Nick Offerman, Molly Quinn and Thomas Lennon, We’re the Millers opens August 9. Hit the jump to watch the trailers and check out the new poster.

Ever since Metallica Through the Never - the 3D movie featuring Metallica in concert - was first announced, I was curious to see just how writer-director Nimrod Antal (Predators) would change up the concert movie genre. Now, the first trailer for the film is available and it does a nice job of teasing the experience that awaits audiences. Starring Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) as a band's crew member whose urgent mission for the band goes terribly wrong, Metallica Through the Never also features band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. The film opens in IMAX 3D on September 27th and in theaters everywhere starting October 4th. Hit the jump to watch the trailer and to check out the new poster.

Check out the first trailer for Metallica Through the Never below (via Yahoo!):

Here’s the official synopsis for Metallica Through the Never:
Starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Metallica Through the Never is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimrod Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth). The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.

Relativity Media has released the first trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon. Gordon-Levitt stars in the comedy as a contemporary, porn-addicted Don Juan-type who attempts to reform himself. I caught the film at Sundance and it's really funny and marks the start of what looks to be a very, very promising directorial career for Gordon-Levitt. This trailer does a great job of conveying the film's tone and the style that Gordon-Levitt has crafted, as quick editing, music, and repetition are used frequently to present some of the film's situations, especially with regards to the porn. While the trailer does give away a couple of the pic's best comedic surprises (like the cameos), there's also a sweet sincerity to Don Jon that's only hinted at here, and the performances from Gordon-Levitt, Johansson, Moore, and Danza are all top-notch. I expect the film will be a major crowd-pleaser when it hits theaters later this year.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, click here to read Matt’s review of the film from Sundance, and click here for Steve's interview with Gordon-Levitt and the cast. The pic also stars Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Jeremy Luke, Rob Brown, and Brie Larson. Don Jon opens on October 18th.

Disney has released a new trailer for Pixar’s upcoming prequel Monsters University. While the Hangover Part III-style trailer does boast a good deal of new footage (showing off more fantastic monster designs in the process), the central focus is on a new track called “Roar” composed by Axwell & Sebastian Ingross of Swedish House Mafia. It’s a rather dance-y track that director Dan Scanlon commissioned in order to capture the college feel in the film, but I’m interested to see how it works alongside Randy Newman’s score for the animated pic. Newman himself collaborated with international drum corps The Blue Devils on the music, so we should expect something a tad different from his Monsters Inc. score.

Hit the jump to watch the new trailer. The film features the voices of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Helen Mirren, John Krasinski, Nathan Fillion, Charlie Day and many more. Monsters University opens in 3D on June 21st.

Here’s the official synopsis for Monsters University:
Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have ...

A new international trailer for director Dennis Dugan’s comedy sequel Grown Ups 2 has been released online, and it’s got everything: ugly mother jokes, deer piss, David Spade in a tire, a Shaq nut shot, and the classic “fat guy jumps naked into a lake” gag. The story appears to revolve around a rivalry between Sandler’s “old guys” gang and a group of stereotypical frat boys who live near Sandler’s cabin. It’s hard to believe there’s an audience out there for a sequel like this, but with the first film making over $270 million worldwide, it would appear that there are plenty of people eager to see more Grown Ups.

Hit the jump to watch the new trailer. The film also stars Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Nick Swardson, Taylor Lautner, and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Grown Ups 2 opens on July 12th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Grown Ups 2:
The all-star comedy cast from Grown Ups returns (with some exciting new additions) for more summertime laughs. Lenny (Adam Sandler) has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends grew up. This time around, the grown ups are the ones learning lessons from their kids on a day notoriously full of surprises: the last day of school.

DreamWorks has released a brief first trailer for Delivery Man. The trailer quickly sets up the premise: Vince Vaughn plays a sperm donor who ended up being the biological father to 533 kids due to a mix up at the clinic. Those kids are now suing to find out his identity. The movie is based off the Ken Scott's 2011 Canadian film Starbuck, which I heard was pretty good. Here's hoping that Scott, who is helming the remake, can repeat his success.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Chris Pratt, Cobie Smulders, and Britt Robertson. Delivery Man opens November 22nd.

Here's the official synopsis for Delivery Man:
A middle-aged man's life is turned upside down when he learns he has fathered 533 children through sperm donation. When a few hundred of the children express an irrepressible need to meet their father, he must decide whether or not he will step up and reveal his identity.

You may have seen the U.K. trailer for director Edgar Wright's The World's End previously, but the new U.S. trailer has now been unveiled with plenty of new footage to scope out. The story centers on five childhood friends (played by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman) going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”. But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line. The humor seen in the U.S. trailer is just as sharp and funny as the jokes in the U.K. trailer. Also, after rampaging zombies in Shaun of the Dead and cordial fascists in Hot Fuzz, killer robots feel like a natural antagonist for the conclusion of the "Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy".

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Rosamund Pike. The World's End opens in the U.K. on July 19th and in the U.S. on August 23rd.

Here’s the official synopsis for The World’s End:
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled ...

Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. In it, General Zod (Michael Shannon) sets up the film's central conflict and gives Earth 24 hours before unleashing hell. While previous trailers focused on the coming-of-age tale of a Kryptonian stranded on Earth and the love between a son and his father, this new cut is chock full of dread, evidenced by Superman drowning in a mountain of skulls. When the villains threaten to kill one million humans for every life he saves, you can't help but feel as if the odds are fully stacked against the world's most powerful superhero. This is certainly a fresh approach to the iconic hero and I hope that the film lives up to the trailers' expectations.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and check out 20 new images here. The film stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fisburne, Antje Traue and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.

Check out the new trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis for Man of Steel:
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very ...

As part of Xbox’s console announcement today (read Matt’s recap here), Microsoft introduced a couple of games that will be featured this fall as part of the Xbox One experience. One of the most highly anticipated games is Infinity Ward’s follow-up to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, a wholly new Call of Duty video game featuring a new story and characters called Call of Duty: Ghosts. The full reveal trailer for Ghosts is now online, and it’s very, very promising. The video game was written by Oscar-winning Traffic and Syriana scribe Stephen Gaghan and takes place in the near future in which America’s forces have been nearly obliterated. The protagonist is part of the resistance, a ragtag team made up of former members from various armed forces services such as Navy SEALs and Marines. I love the underdog approach here and Gaghan’s involvement is incredibly promising. Also, mo-cap dogs!

Hit the jump to watch the reveal trailer along with a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s enhancements. Call of Duty: Ghosts will be available on November 5th.

Here’s a description of Call of Duty: Ghosts:
The franchise that has defined a generation of gaming is set to raise the bar once again with the all-new Call of Duty®: Ghosts. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty and the critically-acclaimed Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® series, Call of Duty: Ghosts ushers in the next generation of the franchise, delivering a riveting all-new gameplay experience built ...

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The series features the voices of Adrian Pasdar, Fred Tatasciore, Roger Craig Smith, Travis Willingham, Troy Baker, Bumper Robinson, and Laura Bailey. Marvel’s Avengers Assemble premieres on Disney XD on July 7th, with a one-hour preview episode airing May 26th.

Last week we saw a number of trailers and images for all of the networks’ new series that will debut this fall, but one was curiously left out: NBC’s Believe. The series' trailer has now landed online, and the story centers on a wrongfully-imprisoned death row inmate who is broken out of jail in order to protect a young girl with powerful abilities. The pilot was written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who also executive produces the series alongside J.J. Abrams. Unsurprisingly this trailer makes Believe look very promising, and I’m really looking forward to seeing more from the show in the near future.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The series stars Johnny Sequoyah, Delroy Lindo, and Kyle MacLachlan. Believe will premiere on NBC midseason, so don’t expect it on the airwaves until sometime after the new year.

A new domestic trailer and poster for director Neil Jordan’s vampire drama Byzantium have been released online. The film stars Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan as a mother/daughter vampire duo who arrive in a small British town where their secret doesn’t stay kept for long. We’ve already seen a couple of international trailers for the pic, but this one does a nice job of teasing the kind of moody, dramatic vampire story that Jordan has crafted, not unlike his previous film Interview with the Vampire. We see a lot of Ronan’s character mulling over her immortality, and in a bit of a twist it appears that women are forbidden from being turned into vampires.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer and to see the new poster, and click here to read Matt’s review of the film from TIFF. The film also stars Sam Riley, Caleb Landry Jones, and Jonny Lee Miller. Byzantium opens on June 28th.

Click over to Apple to watch in HD.

Here’s the official synopsis for Byzantium:
Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.

With a little over a month away until the release of Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger, Disney has a released a new trailer. The story focuses on John Reid (Armie Hammer) surviving an attack, being saved by Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp), and the two teaming up to fight injustice. The new trailer speeds through the premise to get to the set pieces, and while I want to be excited for this movie, I just keep seeing Wild Wild West. There's hardly any of the humor that made Verbinski's Pirates of the Caribbean movies so enjoyable, or the strangeness that brought Rango to life. Then again, if Disney wants to leave the best stuff out of the trailer, that's fine by me. I'd like to be surprised.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham Carter. The Lone Ranger opens July 3rd.

As I said in my review of Sightseers, director Ben Wheatley has carved out a niche for creating dark, insanely violent, and comically twisted pictures. The trailer for his latest film, A Field in England, has been released and provides a captivating expansion of Wheatley's style. The movie takes place in England in 1648 and sees a group of deserters captured by an alchemist who forces the men to find a hidden treasure. However, the search descends into madness as they eat the psychedelic mushrooms from a field. There's enough here to let you know it's Wheatley, although the lack of humor and emphasis on the trippy visuals makes this movie feel more in line with Kill List rather than Sightseers and Down Terrace.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. A Field in England will be released in the U.K. on July 5th in theaters, TV, Blu-ray & DVD, and VOD. The film will be released in the U.S. via Drafthouse Films.

Here's the official synopsis:
England: 1648 AD. A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler. O’Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be ...

A new trailer for James Mangold's The Wolverine has gone online. The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.” This new trailer goes heavy on the drama by showing Logan's guilt over killing Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) in X-Men: The Last Stand, and why he would consider getting rid of his powers. This trailer also shows off the strange mix of ancient Japanese warriors and hi-tech sci-fi; a combination that is best represented by the hulking Silver Samurai. But if Wolverine can shield a guy from what appears to be a nuclear blast, then a giant robot samurai shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, and Svetlana Khodchenkova. The Wolverine opens in 3D on July 26th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Wolverine:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

Last week, we saw the first images from Guillaume Canet's Blood Ties, and now the trailer and poster have been released. The story takes place in New York in 1974, and centers on two brothers. One has recently been released from prison, and the other is a cop who is trying to help his brother out only to discover that old habits die hard. It's weird to see Marion Cotillard trying on a New York accent, but the crime-drama aspect looks good, and there's definitely a lot of potential here. As for the poster, I really like the 70s-style they've used.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. The film also stars Clive Owen, Matthias Schoenaerts, Mila Kunis, Billy Crudup, James Caan, and Zoe Saldana.

Here’s the synopsis:
New York, 1974. Fifty year-old Chris has just been released on good behavior after several years in prison following a gangland murder. Waiting for him reluctantly outside the prison gates is his younger brother, Frank, a cop with a bright future. Chris and Frank have always been different, and their father, Leon, who’d raised them alone, seems strangely to prefer Chris – this, despite all his troubles.

Yet blood ties are the ones that bind. Frank, hoping that his brother has changed, is willing to give him a chance; he shares his home, finds him a job, and helps him reconnect with his children and his ex-wife, Monica. But Chris’ past quickly catches up to him, and his descent back into ...
