HBO has released a new extended featurette for director Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming Liberace film Behind the Candelabra. The 12-minute video takes us behind-the-scenes of Soderbergh’s possibly final feature film, as we get an intimate look into how the filmmaker crafted his chronicle of the tempestuous relationship between Liberace (Michael Douglas) and his lover Scott Thorson (Matt Damon) throughout their secretive five-year love affair that began in 1977. Much of the featurette’s focus is on the insane costume and production design of the film, but we also get some footage of Sodbergh operating the camera himself and of a nearly unrecognizable Rob Lowe as Liberace’s plastic surgeon.
Hit the jump to watch the featurette. The film also stars Debbie Reynolds, Scott Bakula, Dan Aykroyd, Cheyenne Jackson, Paul Reiser, and Boyd Holbrook. Behind the Candelabra will premiere on HBO on May 26th at 9pm/8c.

Over the last several months, we’ve been getting glimpses of Bong Joon-ho‘s upcoming sci-fi film, Snowpiercer. Today, the first footage has been released via an international behind-the-scenes featurette. The story is set in a new ice age caused by a failed experiment to stop global warming that killed virtually all life on the planet. The sole survivors live on a train called Snowpiercer—powered by a perpetual machine—who struggle with the class system implemented on the train. The featurette is dubbed in Korean (or at least I assume it’s Korean since Joon-ho is South Korean), but you can still see that there’s going to be some action involved, especially on the part of an axe-wielding Chris Evans.
Hit the jump to check out the footage. The film also stars John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, Ed Harris, Ewen Bremner, Octavia Spencer, Kang-ho Song, and Ko Asung.

Black and producer Kevin Feige explain the basics of Extremis and how it works in the human body to generate a new breed of unstoppable human beings. We also get a bit of insight from James Badge Dale on why this new technology appealed to him in relation to his character. Robert Downey Jr. seems particularly amused by the concept, citing it as one of the things he’s most excited about in the film.

Sony Pictures Animation has released a new featurette for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. The plot revolves around Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) returning to Swallow Falls to clean up the mess created by the FLDSMDFR, only to find that food is now taking on the form of mutant beasts. In the featurette, Terry Crews, who has replaced Mr. T as the voice of Earl Devereaux, shows us some more of the strange pun-christened leftovers that inhabit Swallow Falls. I’m not sure if the puns will be carrying the whole marketing campaign, but they’re working for now. Of course, everything works better when you add Terry Crews.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. The film also features the voices of Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt, and Neil Patrick Harris. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 opens in 3D on September 27th.

Disneynature has released a new featurette that offer a first look at footage from the studio’s next film, Bears. The first half of the featurette focuses on the studio’s previous nature-centric documentaries and how they’ve been committed to making a meaningful difference in the world, but the second half previews their 2014 release Bears. Directed by Keith Scholey (African Cats) and Alastair Fothergill (Chimpanzee), the film “cozies up to the brown bears who call Alaska’s stunning coastal mountains and shores their home, revealing through tender moments and entertaining imagery how these animals are far from grizzly creatures.” The pic promises to be a fascinating look into this gorgeous world, and I look forward to seeing what kind of footage the Disneynature crew has amassed over their extended period of time in Alaska.

The first footage from the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Under the Dome has been released. As probably the most anticipated new show coming out this summer, the first look includes scenes from the episodes as well as some behind-the-scenes interviews with King, the creative team, and several of the actors. Not too much has been revealed about the adaptation, but from what could be gathered during their WonderCon panel and this first look, it looks like this could very well be a riveting, suspenseful, and imaginative interpretation of the novel.
King himself has been very involved, but also vocal about his support for the show to deviate from the novel and explore other avenues with the characters and the story. With Brian K. Vaughan (Lost) at the helm of the show and a talented cast that includes Rachelle Lefevre, Mike Vogel, Dean Norris, Britt Robertson, and Keith Harris, I’m expecting a solid and gripping thirteen episodes. The series will premiere sometime in June. Hit the jump for the first look.

Universal has unveiled a bounty of goodies from director Joseph Kosinski’s upcoming sci-fi pic Oblivion. The featurettes focus on Kosinski’s desire to do as many of the film’s visual effects in camera as possible, and it’s absolutely fascinating to see how he pulled off some of these tricks. For scenes in the film’s skytower, instead of using a blue screen to fill out the sky background, Kosinski actually projected footage of the real sky (which he shot in Maui) 360 degrees around the set, so everything the audience sees in the background is practical. The other featurette focuses on the creation of the pic’s “bubble ship,” and it’s another interesting look into Kosinski’s strong flair for design.

With the season premiere of Game of Thrones less than a week away, HBO has continued their marketing onslaught by releasing a new promo and a new featurette. The promo once again reminds us that the dragons are going to be a big factor in the new season, and as for the featurette, I highly encourage you to watch it. It goes into detail about creating the world of the Wildlings, and the amount of effort and detail that makes the world come alive. You probably won’t notice these details when watching the show, but subconsciously they make the world believable. This is the case for all of the settings on the series, but showing the technical work in creating the life beyond The Wall is a fine example of how the show’s technical departments work their magic. The featurette also devotes time to new character Mance Rayder (played by the great Ciaran Hinds).
Hit the jump to check out the promo and the featurette. Also, be sure to check out Allison’s recap of Season Two. Game of Thrones premieres on March 31st at 9/8c.
