River Road Entertainment’s adaptation of Karen Thompson Walker’s best-selling debut novel The Age of Miracles has reached a deal with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke to helm the project. The film revolves around a girl’s coming of age during a time when the world is about to come to an end. Seth Lochhead (Hanna) has written the screenplay for the film being produced by River Road Entertainment’s founder Bill Pohland. Harwicke is fresh off production from her latest project, Plush, a thriller starring Emily Browning and Cam Gigandet. Hit the jump to read the synopsis and full press release for The Age of Miracles.

CATHERINE HARDWICKE SIGNS ON TO DIRECTRIVER ROAD’S THE AGE OF MIRACLES

LOS ANGELES, CA (APRIL 3, 2013) – Catherine Hardwicke is set to direct THE AGE OF MIRACLES, a film based on Karen Thompson Walker’s best-selling debut novel. Seth Lochhead (Hanna) has adapted the screenplay. River Road Entertainment’s founder Bill Pohlad will produce.

Set amidst an advancing catastrophe after the Earth’s rotation mysteriously slows, THE AGE OF MIRACLES is a suspenseful and romantic snapshot of one young girl’s adolescence, a poignant family drama, and a heartrending glimpse into the everyday tragedies and triumphs that define what it is to be human in a world that might just be ending. 

Hardwicke recently completed production on Plush, a thriller she co-wrote with Arty Nelson. The film will star Emily Browning, Cam Gigandet, and Xavier Samuels. She is currently in production directing CBS’ drama pilot, Reckless, from a script by Dana Stevens.
