While Channing Tatum may be one of the most in-demand actors around at the moment, he’s continuing to further his efforts behind the camera. Last fall, he signed on to make his directorial debut on the drama Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, and now Variety reports he’s aiming to produce and possibly star in an adaptation of the Matthew Logelin memoir Two Kisses for Maddy.
The film is a father-daughter drama that revolves around Logelin’s marriage, the death of his wife 27 hours after she gives birth, and his experience of raising his daughter as a single parent. The book adaptation was previously set up as a Lifetime movie in 2012, but it did not move forward. Now, Tatum—a new father himself—has snapped up the property to produce through his Free Association banner for Sony’s TriStar and Temple Hill Entertainment.
Safe Haven and City of Angels screenwriter Dana Stevens has been tapped to pen the screenplay, but this is still fairly early days in the development stage and there’s no guarantee Tatum will star when all is said and done. He’s currently on the hunt for a director for his X-Men spinoff Gambit, which is quickly approaching its October 2016 release date and needs to start production later this year. He's also got a Jump Street/Men in Black crossover in the cards, though that project hasn't solidified just yet.
As for impending roles already in the can, he produces and stars in the sequel Magic Mike XXL opening this summer, and has a role in Joel and Ethan Coen’s next film Hail, Caesar!, which hits theaters next February.
