Directors Andy and Lana Wachowski recently wrapped an incredibly ambitious adaptation of the novel Cloud Atlas, and they’re looking to set up their next project straight away. Deadline reports that Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis have been offered the leads in the sci-fi pic Jupiter Ascending for Warner Bros. Plot details are, predictably, under tight wraps, but apparently Jupiter Ascending will act as the siblings’ first major sci-fi action franchise since The Matrix. I’ve liked Tatum more and more with each subsequent film he’s been in (the guy kills in 21 Jump Street) and Kunis is unendingly charming, so I’m all for this casting choice. Hit the jump for more. The Wachowskis had been shopping an R-rated original drama script called Colbalt Neural 9 about a homosexual relationship between an American soldier and an Iraqi citizen, but the duo had trouble getting financing. All signs point to Jupiter Ascending being their next directorial project, with Deadline reporting that production is on track to begin later this year. I liked Speed Racer considerably more than most and their take on Cloud Atlas is beyond intriguing, so I’m up for whatever they choose to throw at us next. Tatum is next set to shoot Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects and will be seen this summer in Soderbergh's male stripper pic Magic Mike. Kunis recently wrapped Sam Raimi's Oz, The Great and Powerful and will shoot the crime thriller Blood Ties with Clive Owen and Billy Crudup next month. She also stars in Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane's feature directorial debut Ted, which opens this July.
