Charlie Sheen to Topline Indie GLIMPSE Alongside Jason Schwartzman; Haley Bennett Lands Female Lead in Next Terrence Malick Film

     September 8, 2011

Hot off his crazytimes spell and firing from the CBS “comedy” Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen has landed the lead in Roman Coppola’s A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III. The story, which hits a little close to home for the actor, centers on a successful graphic designer whose fame and fortune have made him irresistible to women. His life heads into a downward spiral when his girlfriend breaks up with him. Variety reports that Coppola, who most recently co-wrote Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, will write and direct with Jason Schwartzman also set to star.

Hit the jump for the casting news of Haley Bennett in Terrence Malick’s new film starring Christian Bale.

haley-bennett-imageLast month, we reported that the suddenly prolific Terrence Malick was readying yet another film to go into production with Christian Bale set in the lead. The Tree of Life director was considering a number of actresses to star alongside Bale, but it looks like he’s settled on relative newcomer Haley Bennett (The Haunting of Molly Hartley). Variety reports that Bennett has landed the lead female role, but as is expected no plot details are known about the film. The actress was perhaps the least known of the ones vying for the part, as Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, and Clemence Posey (Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter) were all said to have been in the running.

Malick, who used to be known for taking his time between projects (it was 20 years between Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line), has been banging them out lately. Tree of Life opened this year, he has another untitled film starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams already in the can and deep into post-production, is said to be working on a documentary entitled Voyage of Time, and now he’s set to shoot this new film next summer.
