Chevy Chase Leaving COMMUNITY

     November 21, 2012

It doesn’t look like Pierce Hawthorne will be graduating from Glendale Community College.  According to Deadline, Chevy Chase has left NBC’s Community.  The bulk of the 13-episode fourth season has been filmed, but he won’t appear in the 1 to 2 episodes that have yet to be shot.  Chase’s departure isn’t much of a surprise especially since he has the reputation for being kind of a dick.  He didn’t get along with Community creator Dan Harmon (who was replaced as showrunner at the end of season three, although likely not because of Chase’s input), and when Chase was asked by the Huffington Post UK on why he did the show, he replied “It was a big mistake! I just sort of hung around because I have three daughters and a wife, and I figured out I might as well make some bread, every week, so I can take care of them in the way they want … The hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.”  Chase was also reportedly unhappy with the direction his character was going, and his recent outbursts had become a distraction for the cast and crew.

I, for one, commend Chase on his bold decision to leave the best thing he’s done in decades and return to obscurity.

Now stay away from my TV.
Chevy Chase has never ever ever ever EEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER been funny.

Huge mistake was someone actually thinking he was funny back in the day.

Pauli, you must be a young kid. Chase may be a grumpy old guy but he was one of the funniest entertainers back in the day. SNL, Fletch, Vacation and Caddyshack (maybe the best comedy of all time)… he was great in all of them.

      • lato

I don’t understand how caddyshack can be considered the greatest comedy of all time when even Chevy Chase has been in funnier movies. But Idk I just don’t find kids betting on booger eating likelyhoods and Bill Murray sounding autistic as very funny. The guy from Mary Tyler Moore show is a hoot though!! I’m also a young kid probably by your standards by the way. Chevy chase does kind of seem like a cunt though…

I live in Brazil, and fortunately, when we first got cable around here, they started showing SNL reruns from the very first season and beyond. So i got to watch all those classic comedians in There. Chevy was one of the dudes i never liked. I just don’t think he’s funny.

You mean he was great in your opinion. I never thought he was funny either, he annoyed the hell out of me. He is a mediocrity who also happens to be a douche and that’s pretty much all that he is. Good riddance.

It is the best thing he’s done in years, but he’s right

The cast is great, but the gimmicks the show uses are a cheat, there’s no depth, and it’s extremely emotionally manipulative

“the gimmicks the show uses are a cheat”
What gimmicks are you talking about?

    • Pedro Almeida

I agree, my bro, I agree.

This is the best thing it happened to him in years. Community will be cancelled, he should stayed till the end.

  • sloan

Community is a great show, and it is Greendale, for fuck’s sake. Like seriously? It’s well written and to call it emotionally manipulative is well, emotionally manipulative, on my part. So fuck you, guy. Whoever you are. Troy and Abed in the Future!

    Glendale? LMAO

  • Alan

Oh, for the love of God … post the link to the article. Deadline did the work, so give the credit with the hyperlink.

    • Strong Enough

they already said they weren’t going to credit deadline cause Nikki is a scumbag

      • Alan

Yeah, but that’s kinda bullshit. The bloggers’ personal feelings are just that: their feelings. The fact that they don’t like Nikki doesn’t change the fact that she and her writers did the work themselves, and that Collider is feeding off their work, like a parasite. If Collider were really altruistic, then they wouldn’t repost Deadline’s stories in the first place. Or maybe they would break the stories, themselves. But ‘Nikki is a meanie-head’ isn’t a good enough excuse.

Chevy Chase is a comedic icon. Personal squabbles aside, taking lazy pot shots at him from the comforts of your laptop is just about as cowardly as it gets. Obscurity? Really? Grow up, Matt.

iconic or not, a dick is a dick.

This is the best thing that could have happened to Community. Chevy Chase has become such a divisive character on the show. My coworker at DISH and I are actually wondering if maybe it’s too late and the damage has been done. I know he’s going to be on much of season four as it’s already produced, but I can’t wait. I’m going to be checking it all out on my DISH Hopper thanks to PrimeTime Anytime. It will record all four of the major networks during prime time automatically so I don’t have to set timers to catch everything. I was always surprised that he stuck around as long as he did if he was so miserable. Maybe now that Chase is gone they can bring Harmon back.
