The first trailer for Orion Pictures' Child's Play is here! Child's Play sees a sleek, modern company, known for its internet-connected devices like drones, robotic vacuums, and a centralized hub, developing a sophisticated kids doll for entry into the children's toy market. Aubrey Plaza plays a mother who gives her son one of the new toy dolls for his birthday, unaware of its dangerous potential. Lars Klevber (Polaroid) directs from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury). The updated and upgraded horror film, also starring Brian Tyree Henry, Gabriel Bateman, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke, opens June 21st, the same day as another big-screen toy story.

The interesting twist in this trailer is that the toy is named "Buddi" but at one point he's clearly referred to as "Chucky", so I'm not exactly sure what's going on. Child's Play is a tough franchise to crack because it's inherently silly and you have to be scared of something you could drop kick. They can tout this as "From the Producers of It", but Buddi/Chucky, as far as we know, can't make your worst fears come to life. It will be interesting to see how they adapt this one and how it stacks up against the other Child's Play movies.
