Chloë Grace Moretz on ‘Greta’ and How ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ Got Her Into Acting

     February 28, 2019

With director Neil Jordan’s Greta opening this weekend in theaters, a few days ago I sat down with Chloë Grace Moretz to talk about the suspense thriller. If you haven’t seen the trailer, Greta takes the stalker genre and flips it on its head, as it focuses on an unhealthy relationship between two women (Isabelle Huppert and Moretz) who start off as friends before everything begins to unravel. In the film, Moretz’s character returns a lost purse to a lonely and disturbed woman (Huppert) and things go off the rails pretty quickly. Greta also stars Maika Monroe, Colm Feore, and Stephen Rea.

During the interview, Chloë Grace Moretz talked about what it was like working with cinematographer Seamus McGarvey and Neil Jordan, how the film is really about three women, what drew her to the project, how she is going to direct a short film with her brother, and more. In addition, I asked her what TV show she’d like to guest star on, her favorite superhero movie, what movie scared her as a kid, what she collects, what got her interested in the entertainment industry, and a lot more.

Check out what she had to say in the player above and below is exactly what we talked about followed by the official synopsis.

Chloë Grace Moretz:

  • How the film is about three women. Is that one of the reasons she wanted to make the film?
  • What was it like working with cinematographer Seamus McGarvey?
  • Is she interested in directing?
  • How she’s going to make a short film with her brother Trevor Duke Moretz that her other brother Colin Moretz wrote.

Here’s the Greta official synopsis:

A sweet, naïve young woman trying to make it on her own in New York City, Frances (Chloë Grace Moretz) doesn’t think twice about returning the handbag she finds on the subway to its rightful owner. That owner is Greta (Isabelle Huppert), an eccentric French piano teacher with a love for classical music and an aching loneliness. Having recently lost her mother, Frances quickly grows closer to widowed Greta. The two become fast friends — but Greta’s maternal charms begin to dissolve and grow increasingly disturbing as Frances discovers that nothing in Greta’s life is what it seems in this suspense thriller from Academy Award  winning director Neil Jordan.
