Over the past week, rumors about Chris Evans' Marvel contract and acting future became a bit murky.  He told Glamour UK “I think when I’m done with this Marvel contract, I’ll take a little break from acting.  With acting, you’re one piece in a very big puzzle. It’s like you helped buy a gift but you don’t know what the gift is, so you come back and see the movie. Sometimes it’s nice, sometimes it’s tragic.”

For some reason, a number of folks thought he might bail on his Marvel contract, or that once it was done he wouldn't consider re-negotiating his contract for more films with the studio.  When I sat down with Evans today in Los Angeles for Captain America: The Winter Solider (which is awesome), I asked about his Marvel contract and acting future.  He was more than happy to clarify his comments, saying, "I have a six-movie contract with Marvel and I absolutely plan on fulfilling them."  He went on to talk about how making his directorial debut last year made him want to direct more, adding, "I may stick with my Marvel universe in terms of getting in front of the camera, and then getting behind the camera outside of it.”  Hit the jump for more.

From what Evans said, it's pretty clear he loved the experience of directing his first feature, 1:30 Train, and he wants to do more behind-the-camera work.  But it's also clear that he loves making Marvel movies and playing Captain America, so it was great to hear that while he might be more selective with his acting roles in the future, he plans on sticking with his Marvel roles for the near future.  Meaning once his six picture contract is done with the studio, he might be willing to come back for a few more movies.   Perhaps he might set up a contract like Robert Downey Jr. so he's just doing Avengers movies.

Since Evans still has two more films to make after Avengers: Age of Ultron under his original Marvel contract, it's too early to tell how this will all play out.  But I'd like to think if Marvel keeps making great movies, Evans will keep playing Steve Rogers.

Here's what Evans had to say about his contract followed by the video.  Look for more with Evans soon.

“Oh yeah, this was a big thing! I gotta watch what I say.  I will absolutely clarify.  I have a six-movie contract with Marvel and I absolutely plan on fulfilling them.  This is without a doubt the biggest blessing in my life.  Marvel has literally changed the game for me, and they make great movies.  I did direct last year and it was a really fantastic experience, I really enjoyed it.  So I’m certainly looking to do that a bit more, so when it comes to exploring other acting jobs I may not be as proactive in trying to find those, I may kind of stick with my Marvel universe in terms of getting in front of the camera, and then getting behind the camera outside of it.”
