Chris Hemsworth to Join CANDY STORE, Also Eyed for Steve McQueen Biopic with Brother Liam Hemsworth

Though he’s out of the running for American Assassin, Chris Hemsworth certainly isn’t out of options. On the table is an offer to join Candy Store, a crime drama that already boasts the interested parties of Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington and Christoph Waltz. Add to it the fact that Candy Store comes with Academy Award-winning writer/director Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) attached and it’s easy to see why this will be a high-profile picture moving  forward. Hemsworth is also being eyed for the Jerry Weintraub-produced Steve McQueen biopic, Triumph AKA 40 Summers Ago, a project that already has Liam Hemsworth attached. News on both potential Hemsworth pictures comes via The Film Stage. First up, let’s visit the Candy Store. In addition to Pitt, Washington and Waltz, Candy Store also piqued the interest of Jamie Foxx, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Bradley Cooper. Not bad. Here’s why:

The story follows an elite, highly trained deep-cover operative who loses everything, ultimately disappearing into Brooklyn, where he must start again. He washes up as a beat cop, only to discover the global organization he was dedicated to fighting is also operating in his new backyard.

There’s no start date for Candy Store as of yet.

In biopic territory, Hemsworth might star alongside younger brother Liam in Triumph. The McQueen picture isn’t the one being developed by Jeremy Renner, but rather a competing picture written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy (The Last Drop). The picture centers on the professional friendship between McQueen and his stunt double, Bud Elkins. No director is attached at the moment.
