Chris Hemsworth Is THOR

chris_hemsworth_01.JPGNikki Finke just scored a massive scoop by discovering that the man who will wield Mjolnir’s Hammer in Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” is none other than…Chris Hemsworth.

Who is Chris Hemsworth?  Mr. Hemsworth can currently be seen for all of five minutes in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” as George Kirk who not only was the captain a starship for 12 minutes and saved 800 souls, his seed created James T. Kirk.  So not exactly a breakout role but Hemsworth already has massive projects on the horizon.  He’s cast in the lead of the remake of “Red Dawn” [UPDATE: Collider can confirm that he's playing the Patrick Swayze role of "Jed Eckert"] and will also be in Joss Whedon/Drew Goddard’s “Cabin in the Woods”.

But no role he’s had thus far, even his 166 episodes in the long-running Australian Soap Opera, “Home and Away”, which still qualifies him as a unknown here in the states, will compare with the pressure and attention he’ll receive now that he’s Thor.  Not only is he playing a famous, non-masked superhero, if people don’t love him or if they mark him as one of the worst aspects of an otherwise great film, he’ll be recast for “The Avengers”.  So no pressure, Chris.

As for Marvel, they may want to find out Finke’s source and fast.  This was a major piece of casting news and now they don’t control the story anymore and have to re-arrange their roll-out because someone couldn’t keep their gob shut.

As I’m watching this image of this small framed person, I begin to wonder, who hired the casting director, and why? Do you guys plan on dressing him up in polyurethane body parts? Or, maybe the green screen will enhance his already well hidden carved physique? Who knows, may “Golds Gym,” was closed that day… or Kenneth Brannagh was still away somewhere (Asgard)(?), looking for maybe someone who quite possibly would at least look the part!, But, what do I know, I’m still in school, learning 3dsMax…

Before you release this, think about what you are about to do the the future of alternate “Thor” films…

I guess Muhammaed S that your fears have been lifted (at least around the physique that Thor needs to own to be the God of Asgard!

I guess putting the gym work in does pay dividends if you look at how huge Mr Hemsworth is in the trailer!

in my opinion he totally fit the image of Thor .. love his character and his smile :P though its the first time to watch it in a movie his physique is good in fact more than good.

I know its an old thread but once i saw that i had to comment ;)

    Did you see the movie?
Did you go to the 3d version and get “shrink the image” glasses?
How big do you want the character to be?
I know, you must have thought you were watching The Hulk.
If you know anything about lifting weights and the amount of work, time, and dedication to eating the right foods at the time of the day based on your lifting schedule, the physical limits one pushes to lift heavy, and the sleep schedule that limits your day, perhaps you’d be impressed. Perhaps inspired to do the same for yourself.
