Chris Noth wants critics to know that they won’t have the Sex and the City franchise to kick around any more. Speaking to Vulture about the future of the series at the Jack Goes Boating premiere, Noth said
“It’s over. The franchise is dead. The press killed it. Your magazine fucking killed it. New York Magazine. It’s like all the critics got together and said, ‘This franchise must die.’ Because they all had the exact same review. It’s like they didn’t see the movie.”
Yes, our negative criticism has killed yet another franchise. Put it in the graveyard next to other critically-drubbed films like Resident Evil and Underworld and The Twilight Saga and Clash of the Titans. I’m sure the film grossing $95 million domestic off a reported $100 million budget had nothing to do with it.

If only it really worked that way, maybe then we’d never have to see a new Shyamalan film or anything else by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.
Oh, I don’t know if the reviews killed it, I think the fact that it was one of the most offensive poorly done pieces of shit I’ve seen in recent memory might have something to do with it.
I was a fan of the show and the first movie, and yes, I’m a straight male who’s not easy to offend. This movie offended me in just about every way possible.
I want my money back, and I saw it for free. Who do I talk to about getting back the 140 minutes and the next week I spent thinking about just how goddamned awful this movie really was?
I didn’t even see it and I want my money back!
I agree with DLM’s sentiments. Big fan of the show and first movie, but the sequel was an abysmal piece of cinema. Offensive, stupid, lazy, empty, and insulting. The critics didn’t kill the franchise, Sex and the City 2 killed it.
He’s right and you know it. To dismiss what he says cuz you still feel the need to bash SitC? It’s the same it’s always been. A franchise about dumb sluts being the dumb sluts they are. So to NOW act as though SC2 was so offensive? Nope, it was a hive mind mentality.
Well, if that’s true, let’s thank the critics for saving us from a third movie.
I don’t know, or care, if critics killed Sex and the City; but, I do know I hate critics. Lazy, self important, wannabe filmmakers who pooh-pooh other people’s hard work from their recliner. I wish Sex and the City could kill critics.
I think god killed the sex and the city franchise because he felt bad about taking the day on September 11th
unfortunately SATC went too far. People were rolling their eyes when they announced that they were going to do a second one. There are only so many ways to tell the same old story and Michael Patrick King deserves credit for the series and the first movie but he botched the sequel. It was so forced and contrived. Living in NY, some friends have started to resent SATC for what its done to the city… Tour busses to visit locations on the show, obnoxious woman who all want to look like Carrie and yet somehow all wind up looking like they’re trying too hard, glamour, high fashion and riches vs culture, personality and uniqueness. There are many reasons for the gentrification of NY neighborhoods, but SATC now embodies the unwelcome changes in the cities identity over the last decade. Simply put, New Yorkers are over it and everyone heard about it in the reviews.
