Exclusive: Chris Pine on the STAR TREK Sequel, Alex Kurtzman’s WELCOME TO PEOPLE, and Will He Star in FARRAGUT NORTH

     October 24, 2010

Just a few hours ago I attended the press junket for Tony Scott’s new movie Unstoppable.  Starring Chris Pine and Denzel Washington as a train conductor and engineer, the two have to race the clock to stop an unmanned runaway train – effectively a missile the size of a skyscraper – and prevent disaster in a heavily populated area.  You can watch some clips and read a better synopsis here.

With the movie getting released November 12, I’ll be posting exclusive video interviews with Pine, Washington and Rosario Dawson that week.  However, towards the end of my interview with Pine, I managed to get some updates on the Star Trek sequel, Alex Kurtzman’s Welcome to People, and I asked him if he was going to star in George Clooney’s Farragut North.  Hit the jump for what he said:

As you can see Pine say in the video below:

Star Trek 2

He doesn’t know when filming is going to start on the Star Trek sequel, but he heard “mid next year.” With J.J. Abrams busy on Super 8, that date makes a lot of sense.  Also, Star Trek 2 has a release date of June 29, 2012, so the latest they’re going to start filming is July.  After all, they need time to do the special effects.

Farragut North

Regarding George Clooney’s Farragut North, I asked Pine if the rumors about him staring in the film were true.  He said “I don’t believe that is the case.  I love that story. I did the play.  But I don’t think that’s happening.”

Update: Due to me not doing enough research…we already reported Clooney was looking to cast Ryan Gosling in the role.  My bad. Sorry.

Welcome to People

Regarding Alex Kurtzman’s (Transformers, Star Trek) directorial debut, Welcome to People, I asked Pine if he would be starring in it and he said, “quite possibly, yes.  That is a beautiful script.  Alex and Bob (Orci) wrote a beautiful script.  I can’t wait to tell that story…I hope that works out.”  What that probably means is they’ve had talks to have him star in the movie but no contracts have been signed yet.

If he stars in it, Pine will play a man who “must deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he didn’t know he had after the death of their father. Without telling her who he is, the guy also gets involved in the life of her angry 12-year-old son.”

Watch what Pine had to say for yourself and look for the full interview the week of November 12.
