Chris Pine is in talks to star in screenwriter Alex Kurtzman’s (Transformers, Star Trek) directorial debut, Welcome to People.  According to THR, Pine will play a man who “must deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he didn’t know he had after the death of their father. Without telling her who he is, the guy also gets involved in the life of her angry 12-year-old son.”  Steven Spielberg will be guiding the low-key family drama at DreamWorks and the film is also co-written by Kurtzman’s frequent writing partner, Roberto Orci.

Pine continues to be a rising star in Hollywood, following his role as Capt. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot.  The actor is currently filming McG’s action-comedy, This Means War, with Reese Witherspoon.  He’s also attached to star in the next Jack Ryan film, and will be retuning to reprise his role in the planned Star Trek sequel.  He can next be seen in this fall’s Unstoppable.  Hit the jump for a plot synopsis for Welcome to People

Here’s an outline of the script for Welcome to People via Vulture:

Welcome to People tells the story of a struggling twentysomething man who, after flying home to L.A. for the funeral of his estranged record-producer father, discovers that the will stipulates that he must deliver $150,000 in cash to a 30-year-old alcoholic sister he never knew existed, and her troubled 12-year-old son. Determined to keep the money to solve his own problems, he’s nonetheless fascinated by his unknown kin and makes contact with the two without revealing who he really is.

Poisonous vitriol is rife in the working world; at least Mr. Pine is making more than minimum wage to deal with this kind of crap. He should be expressing gratitude for the gift of opportunity. Lindsay Lohan is screwed up because of her soul sucking wannabe mother.

Chris Pine fits very well in his role in Welcome to People. Particularly so with his stuble he looks very much like a brother to an alcoholic sister.
