With Star Trek Into Darkness opening soon around the world, our partners at Omelete recently sat down with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.  During the interview, they talked about what kind of personal challenges did the sequel bring to them both as actors and to their characters, do they now feel beloved by the Trek community, what’s the sequel about, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch.

Star Trek Into Darkness also stars Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, and Alice Eve.  The film opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th and in 2D and 3D on May 17th.

If it’s not Frosty interviewing, I can’t watch it. “What challenges did you face as an actor for your character”. Really? Is the bar that low for coming up with questions?

    • shadypotential

someone on the net is always complaining

    • Jay

That’s a GOOD question. It’s neutral. It allows the actor to say whatever he or she wants. When an actor or actress is presented with such open questions, that’s when we really learn of their value as an actor/ artist.

What a painful interview to watch. Quinto and Pine look miserably exhausted.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto Talk STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS: Working with Anton Yelchin, the terrible ship designs, how the first film fell apart in the second act, the wince inducing title “Into Darkness”, how the writers and director pay too much fan service instead of comming up with an original story, how every Abrams movie has a strong undercurrent of sappy corniness to them, and how much they hate reboots.

I thought it was good. Not great, but good. Abrams really hit the bar with Trek ’09; every scene was a self-contained moment. Darkness is a little more messy and could have done with some fat trimming. So much time spent with people running as fast as they can to repair/activate something. Can’t say much more as I don’t want to spoiler dump on anyone that hasn’t seen it. Cumberbatch really eats the screen up. Basically the script’s a little cluttered and not enough space scenes. Regardless, well worth seeing.
