While The Fighter director David O. Russell’s latest feature Silver Linings Playbook heads into awards season as an early frontrunner, the filmmaker is currently busy firming things up for his next feature.  Previously referred to as American Bullshit, the film is based on a real-life undercover sting operation set up in the 1980s by a con artist working for the FBI who rooted out corruption in Congress.  There’s been a bit of confusion regarding who’s playing what role, with Jeremy Renner recently reported as replacing Christian Bale in the film, but today the producers have announced that Renner, Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams will all be starring in the pic.

Hit the jump for the details regarding which characters the actors will be playing.

christian-bale-david-o-russellBale is now back onboard the project as the con artist, while Adams will play his mistress/partner in crime.  They’ll be teaming up with an out of control federal agent played by Cooper, with Renner set as the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.  That’s one hell of a cast, and I can’t wait to see what Russell will turn out given the crazy material.  Russell wrote the script with Eric Warren Singer, based on Singer’s original screenplay.  Production is set to begin in mid-February.
