Like many of you, I loved Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass. And even though the film made almost $100 million worldwide, talk of a sequel is just that…talk. There seems to be no real movement on the property even as Mark Millar releases new issues featuring the colorful characters.
Anyhow, the other day I was on the set of writer/director Maggie Carey’s The To Do List (formerly titled The Hand Job) and was able to participate in a group interview with Christopher Mintz-Plasse (he played Red Mist in Kick-Ass). Eventually we asked him about Kick-Ass 2 and he revealed that’s been reading the comic and still hopes to be able to make the movie. Hit the jump for what he said.
Look for the full interview with Mintz-Plasse when the embargo lifts.
Question: Have you been reading the sequel as Mark’s been publishing it?
Christopher Mintz-Plasse: Yeah. I haven’t seen the new one.
Do you look at it and go, “Oh, god, please…”
Mintz-Plasse: Please make this movie!
Cause what a role they’ve given me.
Mintz-Plasse: Yeah! I talked to Matthew and he’s like, “I don’t know if I would ever direct it, but I would definitely be on board to produce it. And I’ve thought, Eli Roth would be such a cool director for this. Or someone who hasn’t done a comic book movie but gets horror ‘cause it’s very violent. Very bloody. But Chloe’s working up a storm, man. She’s non-stop. So, who knows if we’ll ever do it? I know I would love to, and I think Aaron would love to. I’m sure Chloe would, but we’re all just kind of busy right now.

I’d love to see a Kick-Ass 2, but only if Matthew Vaughn directs and Jane Goldman writes, it would probably suck major ass without them. But, i wanna see Hit-Girl again! or Hit-Woman, seeing as Chloe Moretz isn’t getting any younger…
Eli Roth, yuck.
nothing much else to say.
Kick Ass was one of the worst movies I saw last year. Why on earth would anybody make a sequel?
There was nothing in that film less than awesome … something you may lack.
haha..i second this guy’s ^^ motion..you lame-o -.-
I, also, would love to see another Kiss-Ass movie. I took a person who does not normally like to go to movies to see the original, and he thought it was extremely good.
I have been anxiously waiting to see if they produced a sequel. This updaye actually disappoints me, as it implies that there probably won’t be another any time soon, or with the original cast.
The first one really wasn’t that great but when did that stop anyone from making a sequel.
> The first one really wasn’t that great
yeah, well … you’re in a minority on that one
> but when did that stop anyone from making a sequel
since apparently some people care about it and would rather not to it at all instead of doing a half-assed job for a quick buck
I’d absolutely LOVE a sequel (and hopefully sooner than later as Chloe Moretz is growing up fast) but I’m not sure how I feel about Vaughn not directing. It was HIS movies. His hand print was all over it. His creation. Why on earth would he let someone else take over?
Why is it a problem that Chloe Moretz is getting older? Surely that is a good thing as it would allow the film to be darker than the original and be rated an 18. All the 15 year olds who saw the first film would be about 18 by the time it comes out so surely it makes sense. This film deserves a sequel more than any other film i’ve seen lately. As much as I like the hangover, how on earth did that film deserve a sequel just because a sad bunch of people find being hungover is hilariously funny?
Like you totally read my mind..
“If Chloe Moretz was older they could make the sequel darker”? In the original movie she uses the words “cunt”, “fucking”, and “asshole”, then she cuts off a man’s leg, throws a butterfly knife into a man’s groin, and then kills 20 men while watching her father burn to death as a strobe light flashes. How exactly could they make the movie darker if Chloe Moretz was older?
A sequel?…no thanks, after what they did in the film surely a sequel is gonna be a total crap…kick ass would have been a great movie if they didn’t removed 2 vital points from the comic: 1) Dave Lizewsky AKA kick ass is an ordinary guy, so ordinary that is like invisible socially speaking, he said that at the very beggining of the comic, this aspect of the character makes him relatable to everyone who reads the comic. In the movie the guy is not ordinary at all, putting glasses to someone that is good looking is not enough to make him/her look nerdy or ordinary and c’mon, that change making Katie Deuxma accepting the true about Dave and becoming his girlfriend doesn’t help a bit for that matter. 2) Changing the back story of Hit Girl’s dad…IMO is what it makes the comic so great and different from the rest and why the movie got a heartless taste…don’t get me wrong, the action and all r great but the movie would have been great if they would have kept those points…
GOOOOOD!! I WAITED FOR MONTHS WHEN THE FIRST ONE CAME OUT AND I LOOOVED IT!!! I LOVED AARON AND CHLOE AND MCLOVIN!!! IT WAS MY FAVORITE MOVIE AT THE TIME AND WHEN I HEARD THEY MIGHT MAKE THE SEQUEL I GOT SO EXCITED!! IT WAS SUUUCH A GREAT MOVIE..NOT SOME RICH GUY WHO ACTS LIKE A SUPERHERO OR SOME NERD WHO GETS BITTEN BY A SPIDER! IT WAS A GENUINELY GREAT MOVIE!! PLUS AARON JOHNSONS FUCKING SEXY! AND I REALLY DONT THINK THEIR AGES MATTER!! I REALLY THINK THE PLOT FOR THE SECOND ONE WOULD BE AWESOME! EACH CHARACTER WOULD COME TO LIFE EVEN MOORE! AND I GET THAT THEY WANT TO MAKE IT REALLY GOOD AND WHAT NOT..BT WITH A CAST AND STORYLINE LIKE THAT THEY DONT NEED ANOTHER YEAR!! I JUST REEEEEEEAALLY HOPE THEY MAKE IT!
They should defiantly make kick-ass 2. They can’t just end it with the first movie they left the ending wide open. And it should have all the same characters plus more heroes and villains maybe? But if they can keep on making these SAW movies after the old guy is dead and they still making them then a kick ass 2 will surly make good profit. The first movie was bad ass. And the if a 2nd it will be just as good if not better. So coming Hollywood make a KICK-ASS 2!!
