News regarding Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse wasn’t the only “mega director” story to hit last night, as we also learned that Christopher Nolan is in talks to direct the sci-fi film Interstellar as his next project.  There’s a link between the two filmmakers, as Nolan’s brother Jonathan Nolan originally wrote the Interstellar script years ago for Spielberg to direct.  Details on the film are understandably under wraps, but the story is inspired by the work of physicist Kip Thorne and involves a group of explorers traveling through a wormhole, where they encounter time travel and alternate dimensions.

Now a few more details have surfaced regarding Interstellar, chief of which is that Christopher Nolan will be writing the script himself in order to incorporate an original idea of his own.  Hit the jump for more details.

christopher-nolan-interstellarBuried in a report on Deadline is the news that Chris Nolan is penning a script that merges an original idea of his with the previous script that Jonathan Nolan wrote.  This isn’t exactly a shock, as the brothers have collaborated on the scripts for The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.  As I understand it, they normally take separate passes on the script instead of writing side by side, so the idea of Christopher taking Jonathan’s draft and rewriting it makes sense.

The report also has a more revealing logline for the film, noting that the film “will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest borders of our scientific understanding.”  The deal is being set up at Paramount with Chris Nolan, Emma Thomas, and Lynda Obst producing, but Nolan’s longtime studio Warner Bros. will also be in the fold as a co-production partner with Paramount.  Thorne will remain onboard as a technical consultant.

  1. I understand the technical differences between this and Inception, hopefully there are more than the few I’m imagining now.

    • Brett Rankin: Hisses yes like a really loud excited snake, then laughs out loud at himself. Hallmarks of a sex offender. Take the diapers off and be a real man.

  2. Yep, called it. Nolan is going into full on hack mode, regurgitating previous idea (Inception). Rises was his Waterloo. Get ready for this to get 20% on rottentomatoes.

    • When Interstellar gets higher than a 20% on rottentomatoes, the first thing im going to do is reply on this post again and write “Nolan Is King” See you in about three years

      • Here is where I wish you’d had the better English lessons you so desperately need for. You hamster face.

    • I COMPLETELY agree with you! Ratings for Nolan’s previous work on rotten tomatoes show a CLEAR trend indicating that critics are quickly becoming aware of what a MASSIVE FRAUD he really is. A 20% rating for his next movie is a very SMART estimation in my opinion. The stats speak for themselves:

92% for Memento, 93% for Insomnia, 85% for Batman Begins, 76% for The Prestige, 94% for The Dark Knight, 86% for Inception and 87% for The Dark Knight Rises

You’d have to be a COMPLETE NITWIT not to see the 20% coming….

    • The news is that he will also participate in writing the script, not only direct it, which at least to me is major news.

  3. As much as I’m excited for this, is it even going to feel like a proper Nolan film without Wally Pfister ‘s cinematography? That guy was so essential to the awesome look of all of Nolan’s movies.
