While it’s hard to decipher the trailer for Inception, it’s easy to tell that there’s a lot going on. That’s an accurate sell of the film as Christopher Nolan tells Hero Complex:
“This is the biggest challenge I’ve taken on to this point. We’re trying to tell a story on a massive scale, a true blockbuster scale – the biggest I’ve ever been involved with. We tried to make a very large-scale film with ‘The Dark Knight’ and with this one we wanted to push that even further.”
He mentions in the article that it’s an enigmatic thriller, a story of madness and lost love, and a metaphysical heist movie all rolled into one. He says he’s made a movie that’s expansive, “in four dimensions.” Ironically, wife/career partner/producer Emma Thomas says that Inception is intended to be a more personal movie…it just happens to be enormous. What doesn’t make sense is that, as you read above, Nolan says he wanted to push Inception beyond the scale of The Dark Knight. Am I the only one who’s getting a little worried that Nolan, left to his own devices, is biting off more than he can chew?
Inception hits theaters in all dimensions on July 16th.
