New Look at THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Batsuit; Christopher Nolan Comments on his BATMAN Trilogy

     January 11, 2012

We’re about six months away from the fanatically anticipated final act in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. Have your tickets yet or did you miss out? In the meantime, we have a quick look at Batman (Christian Bale) in his new Batsuit, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly’s annual forecast issue. We’ve also got some choice quotes from Nolan about his thoughts on the final film and the trilogy overall. We’ll save the somewhat spoilery comments for after the jump, but for now, here’s what Bale had to say about rising to the demands of Batman’s adoring public on this last film:

“I can tell you the truth because I’m done with it: I felt immense pressure. And I think it’s a good pressure, because you owe it to the films — and the people’s expectations — to make great work.”

The Dark Knight Rises also stars Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine and opens July 20, 2012. Hit the jump for more.

christopher-nolan-the-dark-knight-risesVia EW, we’ve got a few comments from Nolan himself. While they’re not really spoilers per se (more like confirmations), if you don’t want to know anything about the film ahead of time, look away now.

While many fans lamented the lack of a Batcave in The Dark Knight, the final act will feature a return to the lair beneath the rebuilt Wayne Manor. Since the third film takes place eight years after the second, everything should be in good shape (and ready to be destroyed, perhaps).

Speaking of The Dark Knight, Nolan also suggested to fans that they go back and watch it again, specifically the final scene where Batman and Gordon (Oldman) concoct a cover-up, as this provides clues to the finale.

When asked about the confusion over Bane’s (Hardy) voice, Nolan had this to say:

“I think when people see the film, things will come into focus. Bane is very complex and very interesting and when people see the finished film people will be very entertained by him.”

Wait I must be missing something here. What’s new about this suit?

    • Darth Vader

he is not wearing an underwear :)

      • The Cat

He’s not wearing any hockey pads.

    • LAME

      Read again.

  • Nina

Chris Nolan is a great director and his Batman films made other comicbook movies like a stupid joke

  • The Editor

According to EW, the first block quote comes from Christian Bale, not Christopher Nolan. Collider regrets the error (or, at the very least, it will regret the error once it realizes that a mistake has been made).

    • The Editor

And now it has been corrected, but without any acknowledgement of error. I forgive you, Collider. At least your corrected your mistake.

I love Batman more than i should but the thing that bothers me about this film is, 7-8 years have past since the last movie and yet he’s still wearing that same suit? He upgraded in a matter of a few months to a year at most in the dark knight. wtf?! i want a new suit that looks more like batman.

    • cloud-strife

he has been inactive for the last 8 years. batman disappeared after the death of harvey. he wouldn’t have upgraded cause he wasnt working.

      • jimmy3vil

He must have been working out a lot. Otherwise that thing is gonna sag at the crotch.

      • kram091

Makes sense but we’re also expecting an all new Batcave (and have seen that new bat vehicle). Why would he make the effort to have these things constructed, but not make any changes to the suit?

    • WEV

if its not broken don’t fix it…well, at least till after Banes done breaking it of course

  • broski

Ugh, that suit is so ugly. Even if he couldn’t turn his head as much, he looked way more beastly and gargoyle-like in Begins, almost like a giant bat.

    • Strong Enough

remember. this is Nolanverse. everything is realistic. am sure he can’t do half the stuff he did in TDK in that suit your referring too

      • I Wonder

Never troubled Keaton, and we actually could see his fight scenes.

Also i don’t see any changes between this suit and tdk. I hope the final act we get a newer suit more inkeeping with the comics.

Arkham city suit = perfection, hint hint!

      • broski

I Wonder’s got the right idea. And Batman actually seemed to move around much more in Begins than he did in TDK.

  • Phil

Has he always had that stupid Clooney-esque belt?

    I must have missed it.

“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I can do those things. Because I’m not a hero, not like Dent. I killed those people. That’s what I can be.”

Yeeeah, that’s what scares me, now that Nolan said that thing about the Dark Knight finale. That. Doesn’t. Sound. Good.

      • sense 11

probably means he’s finally going to kill someone

  • sense 11

I love that suit, its the shit and then some

The whole of batman is about crime in a city and a guy called batman wanting to stop it. In real life you can never stop crime so if this film ends saying batman’s fixed it forever, that’s bull. And if not then it will all be about setting up a foundation to stop crime in Gotham for as long as possible. So this is called the police, but they’ll get corrupt again or continous strings of batmans… forever

  • Tarek the hater

Needs a new simpler suit design. he looks like the batman forever batmobile here, or green goblins lego outfit.

Also, while i like the direction theyre taking with bane and cat, Banes mask looks like an upsidedown pair of gimps underpants with a crotch sniffing attachment.

  • slenderman

I use to make suits like this ,but i took a batarang to the knee
