Kenneth Branagh in Talks to Direct CINDERELLA

     January 31, 2013

Earlier this month, director Mark Romanek departed Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella after “creative differences”.  Today, Vulture reports that the studio is now in talks with Kenneth Branagh to replace Romanek.  Branagh is a pretty major departure from Romanek, whose previous films Never Let Me Go and One Hour Photo have a distinct style and approach.  Branagh’s non-Shakespeare work is fairly journeyman aside from his overuse of Dutch angles.

Cate Blanchett is reportedly still attached to play the evil stepmother, and the production is still looking for its eponymous princess with Saoirse Ronan, Gabrielle Wilde and Alicia Vikander reportedly on being eyed for the role.  Disney hopes to begin shooting in London this fall for a possible 2014 release.  Branagh’s next film, Jack Ryan, opens December 25th.  Click here for new images from the movie.

Branagh is such a milque toast director. Probably a good fit for Disney to shove more of their lame family films where only white people exist.

“overuse of Dutch angles.” It’s easy to bitch about aesthetic details when you have nothing of substance to write. Branagh has only deployed dutch angles extensively in ‘Thor’ – so I guess we are throwing his entire career out because Goldberg only seems to have seen ‘Thor’.

Yet he doesn’t want to list Thor in his article because it was successful.

Well it was either trash people more talented then him in articles like this that are supposed to give us details of movie news or be a paparazzi and try and annoy the same people more. I guess he wasn’t good enough for a paparazzi so he has to find satisfaction giving his unwanted opinions about movies in trailer articles and ones such as the above.

You are both wrong. Kenneth Branagh is awesome. He’s the new Laurence Olivier.
He can direct almost anything, and I can’t wait to see Cate Blanchett and Kenneth Branagh in a film together.
    Rock on Kenneth!
