Hugh Grant Joins Ever-Growing Cast of CLOUD ATLAS

     September 13, 2011

The cast of the ambitious adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas is apparently just not big enough. THR reports that Hugh Grant is the latest actor to join the film, which is being directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Twyker. The three co-wrote the screenplay, which centers on six different interlocking storylines that take place across different locations and time periods. The cast now includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving, and Jim Sturgess.

The pic is being produced independently, but boasts a large budget for an indie. Last month Whishaw revealed that all the actors in the film will be playing multiple characters, swapping both gender and race. The production is definitely ambitious, and I’m really interested to see what the Wachowskis have up their sleeve as they haven’t directed a film since 2008’s Speed Racer. Shooting is set to get underway in Glasgow, Scotland.

I wish Hugh Grant would do more movies. He is an underrated actor. He pigeonholed himself as an actor who just did romantic comedies rather than try to reach his full potential as an actor.

Don’t you mean LARRY and Andy Wachowski, he was born a dude, you know!? This may turn out to be a good or even great movie, but the fact no studio is financing it – even with a stellar cast like that – should tell you something, either it’ll be a mess or a work of genius, and if it’s the former, just plain mediocre, or doesn’t do some major business at the box-office, the Wachowski’s will never get a big studio film to direct again (especially after the dissapointment of the ‘Matrix’ sequels and the enormous flop that was ‘Speed Racer’)…

Yeah. But Larry is now a girl. A transsexual. I don’t know if he had made a SRS. what a weird world we are living in…^^

Hey Tarek dude, I’m fully aware of Larry Wachowski’s personal, uh, ‘proclivities’, but that doesn’t change the fact he was born a dude, and as far as I know, the U.S. federal authorities don’t recognise their citizen’s genders as anything other than what they were born as… what he does with his body is between him, his family/friends, and ultimately God, I just don’t have to be politically-correct about it (the Wachowski’s are still highly intelligent and talented filmmakers, even if one of them has gone a bit weird :-) )!

I am a bit confuse. The federal authorities authorize people to change their sex, or the marriage between two persons of the same sex, but do not permit the change of their names on the certificate of birth ? =D
