International TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Posters Play Up the Action

by     Posted 5 minutes ago

I want to lie.  I want to say I’m angry about director Jonathan Liebesman’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.  But I’m not.  Even as a childhood fan of the somewhat violent Black & White comics I don’t feel violated.  I’m an adult now, and this is a movie about giant turtles.  And, that being said, it actually doesn’t even look that bad for a kids movie.  And a “kids movie” is certainly what these posters are selling.  Because one of them is a dramatic rendering of turtles plummeting away from an explosion.

In the new live-action iteration, a city is in the iron grip of Shredder (William Fichtner) and the Foot Clan, and it’s up to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with the help of reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), to stop Shredder and save the day.  Hit the jump to check out international versions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles posters.  The film also features the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub and opens in theaters on August 8th.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Has a New Release Date; July 7th 2017

pirates-of-the-caribbean-5-release-date

About a year ago Disney pulled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales from the 2015 release calendar so that Kon-Tiki helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg would have more time to work on Jeff Nathanson’s script, which they apparently wanted to tweak.  A wise move considering how On Stranger Tides turned out (even if its international box office was higher than its predecessors).

But now we have an official new release date for the film.  Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (apparently that’s still the official title) will now arrive on July 7th, 2017.  Hit the jump for more on the new Pirates of the Caribbean 5 release date.

The new USA Network drama series Rush is about renegade physician Dr. William P. Rush (Tom Ellis), a “medical fixer” who privately caters to the elite of Los Angeles for large sums of money.  Rush’s unorthodox business is thriving with the help of his savvy assistant Eve (Sarah Habel), but his self-destructive personal behavior puts him at odds with most of the people in his life, including his best friend, Dr. Alex Burke (Larenz Tate).

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Tom Ellis talked about how he came to this show, what drew him to this particular project and character, how much he enjoyed collaborating with writer/director Jonathan Levine, trying to find the truth in a sometimes unlikeable character, where Rush draws the line, and how the character relationships will develop.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

DEAR WHITE PEOPLE Trailer Ends Racism in America

by     Posted 14 hours ago

dear-white-people-trailer

While we brought you a teaser trailer for the racial satire Dear White People a month or so ago, the new official trailer for the film is now available.  To be quite honest, I prefer this new cut to the previous one since it gives a much better sense of the comedy’s tone.  There’s plenty of social commentary to be found and it appears as if no topic is out of bounds, be it weaves, interracial dating, or the definition of racism itself.  I fully expect lots of nervous laughter in theaters later this fall.

Written and directed by Justin SimienDear White People stars Tyler James Williams, Tessa Thompson, Teyonah Parris, Brandon P. Bell, Kyle Gallner, Malcolm Barrett, Brittany Curran, Marque Richardson, and Dennis Haysbert, and opens in theaters October 17th.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

The latest trailer for If I Stay is now online, which gives fans of Gayle Forman’s YA novel a glimpse into the feature film.  Director R.J. Cutler’s adaptation stars Chloë Grace Moretz as Mia, a talented young musician who balances her aspirations of attending the Juilliard School with the budding romance of her devoted boyfriend Adam, played by Jamie Blackley.  A tragic event puts those Earthly concerns behind her as Mia must decide whether to fight for her life with Adam by her side, or give in to her new condition.  The new trailer offers quite a bit more bed-side footage than the previously released prologue trailer, but also appears to give away some of the story’s beats.  Viewer beware.

Also starring Mireille EnosJoshua LeonardLiana LiberatoAisha Hinds, and Stacy KeachIf I Stay opens in theaters August 22nd.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.

Showrunner Bruno Heller Talks GOTHAM, Avoiding Fantasy, Casting the Series, Teasing Out The Joker in Every Episode, and More

by     Posted 14 hours ago

gotham-joker-interview-bruno-heller

One of the most highly anticipated new shows of the season is the Fox drama series Gotham.  From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome) and with a beautifully cinematic pilot directed by Danny Cannon (the CSI franchise, Nikita), it is the origin story for a number of the characters in the Batman universe, including Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler and Poison Ivy, as it shows what made them the formidable adversaries that they eventually become.  At its core, it is the story of Detective James Gordon’s (Benjamin McKenzie) rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil, and it chronicles the birth of one of the most popular superheroes of our time.

While at the Fox portion of the TCA Press Tour, showrunner Bruno Heller spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about developing the look for the city of Gotham, making it feel like the real world and not a fantasy world, deciding on the age of Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) in this story, putting together such a tremendous cast, figuring out when to be more literal and when to be more subtle when it comes to the portrayals of the villains, that ever present question of when we’ll see The Joker, and the decision to have a possibility in every episode.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay to Produce MANIMAL Adaptation for Sony Pictures Animation

by     Posted 14 hours ago

When Hollywood sets their sights on an adaptation, you never quite know how it’s going to turn out.  Is the tone going to be similar to the original and recreate what made it endearing, or will it be a tongue-in-cheek contemporary take?  Either approach can fail spectacularly or succeed beyond all expectations.  Now when the property in question is the short-lived TV series Manimal, it’s easy to write it off.  Enter Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.  You know what you’re getting with Gary Sanchez Productions, who might just be the best team to tackle the oddity that will be the Sony Pictures Animation live-action/animation hybrid, Manimal.  Hit the jump for more.

New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Clip Has a Finger on the Pulse of the Film’s Humor

We’re walking a fine line with Marvel’s marketing for Guardians of the Galaxy, with one side being in danger of giving away too much and the other offering teases to fans and newcomers alike.  In the last four days alone, we’ve seen not one, but two clips from the film.  Now, since audience reactions to an early screening were overwhelmingly positive, perhaps they want to encourage that great word of mouth with yet another clip.  This one does a solid job of not only showing off the film’s sense of humor, but further exploring the relationships between the characters early on in their tenuous arrangement.  Good stuff, but I’ve already seen more than enough to convince me to check this one out in theaters.

Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood to Lead WESTWORLD for HBO

TV’s the place to be!  That’s what award-winning movie actors are starting to learn thanks to the critical and financial success of shows like HBO’s Game of Thrones and True Detective.  The cable network’s latest series adaptation tackles Westworld, writer-director Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie that starred Yul Brynner as a malfunctioning Wild West robot at a futuristic adult amusement park.  While HBO could certainly have gone bonkers with a premise like that, their first casting announcements come with some gravitas.  Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins and Golden Globe-nominated Evan Rachel Wood have been locked in as series leads.  Hit the jump for more.
