In subterranean Los Angeles the porn industry is alive and well. There is no future and there is no past. People exist in a timeless world, driven by the necessity to fulfill the essential needs of human condition. Without the burden of shame or the weight of self consciousness. They live as free men and women, left to their own designs in the purest embodiment of lust. Industry. A world without form. Devoid of thought, a primordial, sexual paradise. – Vivid.com
Hey, all. Gil here. A while back I mentioned this DVD in an article called “Mercedez Double Feature.” Well, I got this DVD out last night and watched it again and thought it deserved another mention and some screencaps to help illustrate how great this movie is.
To summarize what I said then, if you like your porno artsy-fartsy, look no further than Industry. This is what porno would look like if Ridley or Tony Scott decided to get into the business. It’s a little bit sci-fi, with blue light and smoke coming through giant fans, but with boning and knob polishing. I guess you might call it sex-fi. And if the Scott brothers had made a porno, it would probably be wise to wait for the inevitable director’s cut.
Lucky for us, this visually ambitious sex-fi feature was directed by the passionate auteur Chi Chi (pronounced “She She,” get it right) La Rue. I’ve heard a lot about this guy and his style is impressive. I’d lump him in with the best of the best. He has a real knack for shooting the sex and making it erotic and all that stuff, but he also knows how to make us give a crap about it being an actual movie. That’s really important and most people forget about that. Entertain me. I know it’s a porn and you got some sex goin’ on, I can see that. But why is the sex goin’ on? That’s what keeps me watching.
