While many of you younger folks might not be familiar with the band Guns N’ Roses, there was a time when they were the biggest thing in the music industry. Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, GNR was king of the hill. Wherever they played, demand was fierce. Even stadium shows sold out in advance. This was due to their incredible first album Appetite For Destruction. Even now, the album is a classic. Every song has an energy that most bands never come close to. If you’re never heard it…you need to buy it today.
But…they were a difficult live act. If they were scheduled to play at 9pm, sometimes you’d be lucky if the show started at 11. Hell, some shows started 4 and 5 hours late. And when they got to the stage, you’d never know what would happen. Some shows lasted hours, and some were much shorter. The reason for this...let's just say the band liked to use alcohol and drugs…a lot. So depending on their condition…the show would be like playing Russian Roulette.
That’s just the way it was. But when you’re loved by millions and millions of fans around the world, you could pretty much do and say anything and get away with it.
During the 90’s things fell apart.
The band split up and Axl Rose (the front man) always claimed to be working on a new album. Rumors of him holed up in Woodland Hills, California with tons of musicians always seemed to be talked about online and in the magazines, but music never seemed to emerge into the real world.
Then, starting a few years ago, you’d start to hear about release dates being put into music stores computers. You’d hear December 4th. But that day came and went. The next year you’d hear October 17th. Again, that day came and went.
Every year rinse and repeat. Most fans and critics gave up.

But a little over a year ago, a number of songs leaked. They spread around the internet like wildfire and most fans heard at least a few of them. In fact, a big radio station called KROQ (here in Los Angeles) played a few of them – until they were told to stop.
Then GNR toured with the promise of the new album being released last year. Of course it was just Axl with all new musicians..but he played a lot of new material. And of course…the release date came and went.
But this year it all changes!
The long-awaited Chinese Democracy will be available globally on November 23 on CD and vinyl (accompanied by a free digital download of the tracks), so to get you ready I’ve been given the title track for you to listen to now.
While I don’t usually write about music…if you’re like me and a fan of the band, I figured you’d like to hear the song.
And if you heard the song when it leaked, this version is way more produced…you’ll see.
