The martial arts school Cobra Kai will get another chance to strike first and strike hard if Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) has anything to say about it. A new trailer for the upcoming Karate Kid-inspired YouTube Red original series puts the spotlight on Lawrence as he trains a new generation of, well, karate kids. Don’t expect any safe spaces or easy rides in his dojo, but you can keep an eye out for a nod to the teachings of Mr. Miyagi instead.
Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) also returns alongside newcomers Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood) as Miguel Diaz, a victim of bullying in high school who finds sanctuary under Johnny’s tutelage; and Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) Johnny’s son, Robby Keene, who does his best not to follow in his father’s footsteps; with Courtney Henggeler (Mom) as Daniel’s wife and business partner Amanda; Mary Mouser (Freakish) as their “firecracker” daughter, Samantha; and guest-star Ed Asner playing Johnny’s old-school stepfather,
Cobra Kai comes from writers Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) and Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar), who executive produce the series with Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett. Keep an eye out for more from Cobra Kai in the future, including interviews with the cast and creative team. For now, check out the new teaser trailer below:
Johnny Lawrence is still fighting his old nemesis Daniel LaRusso (The Karate Kid). Rivalries never die, even thirty years later.
