Sony Animation has settled on the directors of their follow-up to 2009’s swell animated feature Cloud with a Chance of Meatballs. Variety reports that animation artists Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn will be taking the helm on the sequel. Last we heard, the original film’s directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were attached to return for Cloudy 2, but it now appears that they won’t be back. Lord and Miller are currently busy with post-production on their live-action debut 21 Jump Street (which looks great), and the recent greenlight for the Lego feature film that they’re attached to may have something to do with their non-involvement with the Cloudy sequel. Hit the jump for more, including the story status of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.cloudy-with-a-chance-of-meatballs-imageCameron and Pearn aren't 100% fresh-faced, as they both worked on the first film: Pearn was head of story while Cameron worked as a story artist. I think Lord and Miller’s goofy sense of humor was a large part of what made Cloudy so enjoyable, so hopefully the oddball tone doesn’t get lost in the sequel. We learned in July that Horrible Bosses scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein would be penning the Cloudy 2 script based on an original idea, but there's no word on what that idea entails. The pic is currently without a greenlight, but the hiring of Cameron and Pearn is a good sign that Sony definitely intends to move forward. Since the first film went on to make over $230 million worldwide, it's pretty safe to say that that greenlight is just around the corner.
