One of the season’s most anticipated films will hit theaters sooner than expected! Okay, so it’s only 3 days, but this is a Coen Brothers movie we’re talkin about.  Originally scheduled to open on Christmas Day (a Saturday), Exhibitor Relations reports that Paramount will now release True Grit on Wednesday the 22nd.  Also opening in wide release on the 22nd is the Jack Black adventure comedy Gulliver’s Travels and the third movie in the Meet the Parents trilogy, Little FockersTrue Grit was previously the only film opening on Christmas weekend, with the other films opening the Wednesday before to enjoy the 5-day holiday, so this is a much welcomed change for people wanting to enjoy a family outing at the Coen brothers Western a little earlier.  For more on True Grit, including some words from 13-year-old newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, hit the jump.

The film stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper, and the fresh faced Hailee Steinfeld. Steinfeld was chosen out of nearly 15,000 girls that producers met with while looking for the right actor for the part.  EW recently sat down with Steinfeld and talked about being cast in the film and how different her life is after being plucked out of near obscurity. When asked what it was like being called back to read the part, Steinfeld responds, “Honestly, if I didn’t get it after that I[still] would’ve been thrilled just getting to meet those guys. I got to read with Jeff Bridges.” That interview is definitely worth a watch if you’re interested.  Although hardly anyone has seen it yet, the flick is generating some serious Oscar buzz.  With all the talk of The King’s Speech and The Social Network being the frontrunners for Best Picture, never count out the Coen brothers come Oscar time.  December 22nd can’t come soon enough.
