At the beginning of March, some blurry set photos from Andrew Dominik’s adaptation of Cogan’s Trade leaked online.  Today, an official-looking image from the film has been released and it shows star Brad Pitt in all his slicked-hair, shotgun-wielding majesty.  Pitt plays Jackie Cogan, a mob enforcer who is tasked with investigating the heist of a high-stakes card game.  The movie has an impressive cast that includes Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom), Scott McNairy (Monsters), rising star Bella Heathcote (Now), and Sam Shepard.

Judging by the image, the film looks to have the grittier feel of Dominik’s debut film Chopper rather than the lyrical, haunting pace of his previous work, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. The Weinstein Company picked up the rights to the film and will likely release the movie in 2012.  Hit the jump to check out the image.

  1. I agree with both of you two heroes! This is going to be a movie! Where’s the hype? Pitt’s gonna be a mean sob in this, and surrounded by kick ass actors, with a stud writer/director! I’m freaking out!!!

  2. we might not see Brad in QTs next, but atleast he’s the lead in Andrew Dominick’s next. Jesse James is a bonafide masterpiece. definetly one of the best films of 00s. just a hypnotic and powerful film.

sad to see Roger Deakins not shooting this, but with the looks of it, Dominicks new DP is also great. also, i’m sensing this one is shot on digital. interesting choice Andrew, can’t wait for your film. the cast is magnificent.

      • Corran – tnx for the correction. i thought it was shot on digital because the still image has a Michael Mann-Collateral vibe. also, i forgot the DPs name. tnx for the info. i love his work on LET IN ME. just an amazing piece of cinematography(it is even better than the original).

i wish you the best of luck on your movie. i hope it is somehow a different film from Jesse James, but just as amazing and poweful. still don’t know if Dominick has a certain style that he does in all of his movies since i haven’t seen Chopper(i’m eager to take a look at it. i’ll wait for the bluray to come out)

      • no worries… and the film is no where near the meditative beauty of Jesse James… more of a violent crime story with humor…

  3. I cant wait for this. Jesse James is one of, if not my favorite movie. Pitt was at his all time best in it. The fact it was so overlooked is still upsetting.

  4. So what happened to Sam Rockwell? I was all excited about a Jesse James reunion. If Liotta is the replacement, though, it’s a nice consolation.

  5. Assassination of JJ is the best film to date imo. Seriously looking forward to this, but also hoping that Rockwell will be in there somewhere…

Dominik is a phenomenally talented director and he surrounds himself with similar geniuses, so I imagine this will be great.
