If you’ve been anxiously awaiting an historical epic lacking in both ingenuity and logic from the directing team behind Skyline, you’re in luck. Brothers Colin and Greg Strause, the duo that helmed last November’s sci-fi misfire Skyline, have announced plans for their next directorial effort, War of the Ages, in an interview with Movieweb and it’s a doozy:

War of the Ages is going to be the next news item. Basically, an ancient artifact is uncovered, time is shattered and the seven greatest war leaders in history have to battle each other out. It’s sort of like The Lord of the Rings meets Gladiator. You have Napoleon vs. Julius Caesar vs. Attila the Hun vs. Genghis Khan vs. Alexander vs. Hannibal. So, there you go. It’s going to be in 3D and it’s a big sword-and-sandal epic.”

I wasn’t aware that studios were now allowing “high-deas” to pass as films. In the context of a comedy like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, the idea of historical figures teaming up is amusing. Even Night at the Museum acknowledges the ridiculousness of such a situation. But planning an action epic pitting Julius Caesar against Genghis Khan? That’s just offensively stupid. Echoing their plan to get financing for Skyline, the Brothers Strause have filmed a trailer for War of the Ages in order to sell the film. Now, lets see which studio actually produces a film like this.

Those guys are the face of what’s wrong with cinema nowadays.

“And it’s going to be in 3D.”

By God, someone make it stop.

  • Joe B.

This guys look like they wandered in from Octoberfest at Applebee’s. What’s up with that?

  • Lame Duck

Umm….no thanks. I went to go see Skyline and that was unforgivable. (*that independance day meets cloverfield pile of crap!*)

  • Aurora Vampiris

This sounds suspiciously like a Deadliest Warrior movie – wasn’t a Deadliest Warrior movie in the works already (by another studio)?

  • BlackAdam52

This is already on Spike TV. They call it Deadliest Warrior.

  • Calmontoya

I bet they have a bunch of monkeys (literaly a bunch of apes) locked up somewhere typing this stuff!!!

You can only blame yourself for wasting 10 bucks a person on Skyline. While yes the tag line “Don’t look up!” screamed potential but it was more potentially being the worst tag line ever. Judging by the numbers Aliens vs Predator Requiem grossed maybe one in every 100 thousand people saw it. However, those who did were kindly treated to being shown the only way these two know how to evoke any type of reaction from the audience is by having an Alien literally throat rape a pregnant woman. Which replaces the unborn child with a “chest burster ” that is gifted with a nice little pre-birth snack. Trust me when I say that it plays much less horrific then it reads. It is possible a competent director could earn something like that, but from the Strause brothers it was more like cheap kick to the balls of the audience.

These guys are an atrocity to film making. They are like 2 Uwe Bolls. How on earth they were happy to release Skyline (given the stench ridden turd that it was) is beyond me.

    • Skyline was awsome I just wish all you f_ckin morons could see that.

Skyline was awesome I just wish all you f_ckin morons could see that.

Whenever these guys hit a creative wall all they have to do is reach for the bong, and another Citizen Kane is born!

Why does everyone linger on Skylines ineptitude. It was a truly horrendous movie, but in all fairness, Alien vs Predator: Requiem was far, far worse. So please, in the future when bashing The Brothers Strause(hah), please remember to tear into AVP:R as well.

  • the vidit

Skyline was/is underrated. The comments here read like the pathetic drivel from self-righteous people that are in need of enema that aren’t doing isht with their lives but playing Monday morning quarterbacks while back seat driving.

Ungh! I hate you holier-than-thou critics and creating that castrated this “origin” story with hate. Punk asses.

  • vincent

the vidit must be one of the lame ass brothers who made the film, Skyline. Just watched it…. well, 25 minutes of it before turning off that pile of dog vomit.

These two are fat talentless con men who are good at one thing: sales pitches. Clearly they at least have that talent since they’ve now produced two steaming piles of shit and have made some serious cash doing nothing for the world but vomiting on it.

  • Rastergamer

Hey Vincent. Why don’t you take your happy face and jam it up your mother’s vaginal path. Then at least you will be doing someone a favor, instead of continuing to be a brainless bandwagon dogpile jumper. TWILIGHT is garbage. BATTLE OF LA is garbage. BLACK SWAN is garbage. Skyline, Splice, and District 9 are all great low budget sci-fi movies. Three cheers to the brothers Strause. I hope the Skyline sequel is over-the-top crazy.

  • Disappointed

Just watched *most* of Skyline. Big mistake. Should have read the reviews first. The design and images were amazing, but the writing was abysmal and the “physics” of their world shattered any possibility of a suspension of disbelief. The “twists” were trite and predictable. The attempt at tension was mind-numbing. I’ll never get those 90 minutes back.

Other than that, yeah – a great film. One for the ages.
