It’s Monday which means it’s time for our weekly box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theatres. Coming in the #1 spot this week is the new film Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials making $30.3 million on its opening weekend. Coming in the number 2 spot is the new Johnny Depp film Black Mass bringing in $23.3 million million. In the #3 position, dropping just 1 spot from last week is the Blumhouse film The Visit making $11.3 million. In 4th is last week’s #1 film The Perfect Guy dropping nearly 63% but still bringing in over $9.6 million for a 2 week total of $41 million. Rounding out the top 5 is the true story of Everest making over $7.5 million on just over 500 screens making it the #1 earner per screen this week. In a recent interview with Coming Soon, actor Tom Hiddleston was asked what kinds of traits he’ll be bringing to Loki the next time we see him in the Marvel Cinematic universe. Hiddleston responded with the following: “You know, I don’t know. I think I won’t be able to help it if I ever play him again, and I just don’t know when that’s gonna happen, if that’s gonna happen. I would never lose his dimension, but it’s so interesting. I’ve talked with Chris Hemsworth, how those characters have changed as we’ve changed. It’s five years ago since I played him for the first time. That’s a long time ago. So who knows what I’ll be cooking up!” Dan Aykroyd is a lock and we know Bill Murray will be appearing, but now it appears ALL the surviving original Ghostbusters will be making an appearance in the new reboot. According to a report in the Hollywood reporter actor Ernie Hudson will be seen in the new all female Ghostbusters. No details were given on his role, but the report seems to suggest he was only on set for the final day of shooting. According to a report in Variety, actress Brie Larson has replaced Emma Stone in the upcoming film Battle Of The Sexes. Battle Of The Sexes focuses on the true life, highly-publicized 1973 tennis match between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King. In real life, Bobby Riggs was an aging tennis pro whose match against the significantly younger Billie Jean King became a broadcast sensation with a lot more going on behind the scenes than most viewers of the day were aware. Steve Carell will play the Riggs role in this iteration with Brie Larson playing King. As most of you know, the popular mutant Colossus makes an appearance in the upcoming Deadpool movie hitting theatres in February. Most people have assumed the steel skinned powerhouse would be playing a relatively small role, but we have been wrong. At the recent Q&A session at Amazing Hawaii Comic Con, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld took a question from a fan about how Colossus will be portrayed in the new movie. He responded with the following: “You are going to love Colossus. He’s in it – I hope Fox doesn’t get mad at me – he’s in it a good amount. He doesn’t just walk through the movie.” MAIL BAG Mark Graves writes: My question is: Would you consider doing a "missed movies" section of your show once a week (probably Tuesdays) where you do a quick "see it" / "not worth a buck" recommendation for movies that are newly available to rent? Chris D'Onofrio writes: It seems the 'Star Wars original theatrical trilogy release' rumor mill has fired up again. But in reality, what would it take for this to actually happen? And what do you think is the likelihood of it actually happening? As always, thanks for everything! Michael Gulick writes: Hey Collider crew, love each and every show you do! I have a few of questions about your TV recap shows. Will all the recap shows be filmed on the Movie Talk set? Will the recaps be up right after the shows air (i.e.: Flash recap show at 9pm after The Flash airs) or a day or two later? Finally, when Agents of Shield has their mid-season break, will there be an Agent Carter recap show to fill the space? Thanks for all you do and bring on that sweet TV filthy!
