This week on The Collision, we’re talking about 22 Jump Street and How to Train Your Dragon 2.  We talk about comedy sequels, the work of directors Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, playing against expectations, our conflicting opinions about HTTYD 2, and much more.  As always, we finish up with recommendations.

Really dumping on Home there. I will say that I’m a huge fan of the book on which it is based, THE TRUE MEANING OF SMEKDAY, and if the movie keeps to that storyline and humor it will be better than you think. However, I too am already disappointed by the renaming of Parson’s character (who in the book is called J-Lo), and the casting of Rihanna is RIDICULOUS. Makes the kid sound too old. I’ll say also though that the fact you are so underwhelmed by the trailer also shows Dreamworks marketing isn’t any smarter than Disney right now. The gave it a generic title (it used to be called Happy Smekday!), and cast celebrities for no reason. I’m likely to be disappointed by it, but hope it comes out passable, and I hope you’ll be surprised.
But seriously, check out the book. It’s a great, fun read.

Cool, and again, the only reason Home kept coming up is because it was fresh in my mind and looks tonally very different from HTTYD 2. Better example would’ve been Megamind.
