A little over a month ago we posted an awesome short film by Patrick Jean called Pixels.  In the film, 8-bit favorites Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, and others decide to destroy New York City by turning everything they touch into 3D pixels.  It’s one of the most original short films I’ve seen in a long time.

After the film was released, it spread everywhere.  I saw tons of Facebook and Tweets about the short and it would make sense that Hollywood might notice.  And according to Deadline, they have, as Columbia Pictures and Happy Madison are in early talks to develop a movie based on Pixels and they want to make it in 3D.  More after the jump:

If you’re not aware, Happy Madison is Adam Sandler’s company, so if they’re involved you know they’re aiming for family friendly.  Since no info on the story is available I’ll play nice, but the short film is great and I think if someone could come up with a cool story, a film using the tech from the short is definitely something I’m interested in. Again, it’s all about the story.

If you haven’t seen the short, watch it now.  You’ll be very impressed.

  1. Ugh, I'm so sick of Hollywood exploiting everything that's even remotely popular. I mean, do we really need a movie based on Rollercoaster Tycoon? And this, it was a fun short, but I just can't see how they're going to make it into something that's 90 minutes or longer.
