When Felicity Jones thrust her Jyn Erso action figure into the air during the Rogue One panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe, it was an uplifting moment. Months earlier, Shane Black revealed the villain of Iron Man 3 was supposed to be a woman but was changed to a man because of pressure to sell more toys, another example of the misogyny-tinged climate in Hollywood. Jones’ own action figure marks a step in the right direction, and now fans heading to San Diego Comic-Con will be able to share in the moment.
Hasbro announced today that the Rogue One heroine, as part of Hasbro’s Black Series toy line, will be exclusively available to purchase at the Con this week for $24.99 retail. According to the description, the 6-inch figure “features extensive articulation and realistic character design.” Jyn also comes with two blaster accessories, a removable cloak, and a booklet containing four photo cards.
A limited number of these figures will also be made available on HasbroToyShop.com following the convention, and anyone attending Fan Expo Canada in September will get another chance to purchase the toy.
“I feel very privileged to have joined the Star Wars doll universe,” Jones said during the film’s Celebration panel.
Lucasfilm and Hasbro came under fire from fans during the toy rollout for Star Wars: The Force Awakens when there was a noticeable lack of Rey figures available, even though she ended up being the Luke Skywalker-esque character of the new saga. The fact that, according to Gwendoline Christie during Celebration, that Jyn is the first toy reveal for the anthology film is a smart move — though an unavoidable one, since she is the main character, after all.
