TRON: UPRISING Producers and Cast Talk Fan Reaction, Science Fiction Influences, and Returning to the Grid at Comic-Con

     July 20, 2012

tron-uprising-comic-con-slice The original Tron, though groundbreaking, played to a less than box office smashing success.  In the years since, a loyal and oft times vocal fan base has seen their beloved property pass through many different hands and into many different forms since the original film appeared.  When Tron: Legacy hit Comic Con International a few years ago, the buzz surrounding the film included the announcement of a cartoon series called Tron: Uprising.   This year, Disney XD came to Comic Con in force to create buzz for the new series with a panel and press day.

Producers Charlie Bean, Edward Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz, cast members Tricia Helfer (Voice of The Grid) and Bruce Boxleitner (Voice of Tron) and Art Director Alberto Mielgo spoke to Collider in one on one video interviews.  They had plenty to say about Tron in all it’s forms, the fans, and what to expect from the new series that bridges the gap between the original Tron and Tron:Legacy.  Check out all the video interviews after the jump.

First up was Tron himself Bruce Boxleitner. Boxleitner has had plenty of experience with fans and fandom through his role as Tron and his many years on Babylon 5. Boxleitner talked about his love of fans and Comic Con, trying to remain tight-lipped about spoilers, and Tron’s journey from hero to villain in Tron: Uprising.

Next Executive Producer Charlie Bean spoke animatedly about his love of Science Fiction. He talked about his Sci-fi influences, working with consulting producers Eddy and Adam, and how Tron: Uprising — though dark — will still ultimately be a story of hope.

Consulting Producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have done this Comic Con thing a few times before with Tron: Legacy and the shows Lost and Once Upon a Time. Both had plenty to say about pitching Tron: Uprising as a joke, delving into Tron’s backstory, and what surprises fans of Once Upon a Time can expect this season.

Finally Tricia Helfer talked about returning to Comic Con once again. She spoke lovingly of the “Nerd Superbowl” and how it brings creators, cast, and fans together in a way that no other event manages.

Check out all our Comic-Con coverage here. Tron: Uprising airs Thursday Nights at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Disney XD with encore airings every Friday at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel.
