As part of Community’s three-episode finale a couple weeks back, the episode “Digital Estate Planning” featured the Greendale Seven in an awesome 8-bit video game.  That game is now available to play in the real world!  A test release of “Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne” was created by a user over at reddit.  While it’s great that Community recently received six Critics’ Choice nods and will be returning for 13 episodes next season, it sucks that showrunner Dan Harmon won’t be returning.  Somewhere in that bittersweet middle, we can find ourselves stomping on 8-bit hippies and dodging jive turkeys.  Hit the jump to see where you can download the game.

Head on over to Project Hawkthorne for details on how you can download and play your very own copy of Community’s 8-bit video game!  As an added bonus, you can play as any of the Greendale Seven, or chose: Alien, Batman, Brittasaurus Rex, Constable Reggie, Captain Kirk, David Beckham, Pillow Man, Joey, Seacrest Hulk, Sexy Vampire or Squirrel.  The 8-bit soundtrack and effects are quite nostalgic (the jump sound should be familiar to anyone over the age of 20, I’d hope).  I haven’t played through the whole game yet, but I’m sure it’s going to eat up a bunch of my time.  Go check it out and enjoy Community while you can!  Community, featuring Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Chevy Chase, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong returns this fall to Friday nights on NBC.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the episode, here’s a short clip:
