The theatrical trailer for the Conan the Barbarian reboot has gone online. The film stars Jason Momoa as Conan, with Ron Perlman, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan, and Rachel Nichols rounding out the cast. While the teaser didn’t really show much footage, we really get a sense of what the flick will be like from this trailer. The action actually looks pretty cool, and I’m liking the giant scale and scope of the flick that we’re seeing. Momoa certainly looks the part, and I’m definitely intrigued to see more. Directed by Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot), the film is set to be released on August 19th in 3D. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Okay, this is seriously looking better from the first teaser! THIS is what THOR should’ve been like…primal and dangerous…not a cheesy princess-with-muscles fairy tale.

Chris Hemsworth should’ve been cast in CONAN instead!

    • your mom @

      I totally agree.

    • Romsy @

Have you ever read an issue of Thor? Nothing about him is gritty, he goes on long winded speeches about honor and the how mighty he is(have you seen his special move in Marvel vs Capcom 3? That is exactly what Thor is). The Thor books have been cheeky and full of humor since the beginning, he is the punchline of all the darker characters, i.e. alchoholic Tony Stark. Nothing about the Thor book has ever been primal and dangerous, its always been the bright, epic, fantasy book of the Marvel universe.

      • Pedro Brazil @

        Nailed it.

Bitching about Thor not being ‘primal’ or bullshit like that is just saying “I didn’t want a Thor movie! I wanted a Viking movie!”.

Sorry bro, but that is not Thor.

      • JLC @

Absolutely. Some comics lend themselves to gritty and edgy. Thor is not one of them. Thor should be bright and colorful and over-the-top. Superhero comics are, in the final analysis, kids’ stories. Nothing wrong with that. Stray too far afield, and you lose the essence of what’s made them last for the past 70+ years.

    • Hugo @

Damn you clearly have no idea of what the concept of Thor is…

Looks interesting but with so many quick cuts in the trailer, I smell a potential stinker. I hope not but that has been an indicator of bad movies in the recent past.

  3. SV7 @

Weird. There’ not actually much of Conan himself in the trailer. He didn’t seem to have much presence.

Looks like a nice looking film but can’t tell if it’s going to be any good.

  4. Sara @

    Well… looks better than immortals.

    • Chris Blake @

You must be on drugs, there is no way that was better than Immortals.

    • Guns Of Navarone @

I must be on drugs too then because I would have to agree, Immortals doesn’t look all that great. It looks over-hyped and 300′s little brother.

  5. Lob Taylor @

Action looks cool BUT Conan looks too metrosexual. Neh will wait for this dvd

  6. Romsy @

Momoa looks cooler in Game of Thrones

  7. Migz13 @

Never really was a fan of the franchise.. but I think this looks good.
When the new conan speaks I can hear a tiny hint of Arnold. haha:P

  8. slandry @

well the movie looks okay but i am almost going to say it will be a bomb as i see nothing that makes conan, conan
this will fine for people who has never seen conan,
i will not see it in theaters. the most i would sat is maybe see on dvd as i am really tried of remakes of great movies. is it to hard to come up with a story or just remake the original with better fx

    • Rambis @

Nothing that makes Conan Conan is right, It kinda looks like they are trying to get some Clash of the Titans feel to it. Conan is more of a Dirty brutal Killing Machine Type.

Mongol dude: “Conan what is best in life”
Conan: “To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.”

      Also Conan enjoys the Ladies.

    • Dapo @

People who have never seen Conan???
This is the original Conan from the books and Comics.
Arnold’s Conan is not Canon, that interpretation of Conan did not match the books but unfortunately was the first Conan a lot of people knew and now peeps like you him as the true Conan.

  9. Jimmy @

Looks terrible. So tired of the sword spinning crap. Just hack someone; no need for the twirling and spinning. Conan the monkey-faced punk. I’ll stick with the Arnold version. I don’t need to sit through another 300esque piece of shit.

  10. aaronsullivan @

Looks way more interesting than I was expecting.

  11. Disgusted @

Looks awful. Guyliner, sword-twirling, quick cuts, august release… The casting sucks. How is conan a hawaiaan? Stupid Lionsgate & millennium films.

  12. Terry @

Cheap, Sci Fi channel quality crap. And was that mascara I saw on Conan? SMMH!
I heard the production was so lax and uneven that the guy playing Conan did a few scenes wearing an Abercrombie and Fitch muscle fit(like there is any other type of fit from AF) polo.
    O…k…

  13. Roland @

Meh– not impressed, not interested. I don’t think this looks promising at all. I won’t be lining up to see it based on THIS trailer. A trailer is supposed to sell you on the movie, and this isn’t doing it for me. It just looks like every other wannabe sword-and-sandals “epic” to me– nothing new, nothing different, just the same old same old. If you’re going to release a Conan ‘reboot’ why not try to give it a unique or at least distinctive stamp? Why not show us something interesting about Conan’s characterization in the film? Maybe more footage or a more interesting trailer might change my mind, but for now, I’m definitely going to pass on this one.

  14. gorgo @

I know Conan is supposed to be alpha-male, brutish barbarian but I agree with the poster above that Chris Hemsworth is a better choice playing this character. This Momoa dude looks like he is gunning for the next psycho-slasher flick. His eyes speak Pure Evil rather than sexy bad-ass. He is great in GAME OF THRONES because the character is supposed to be less than heroic. But that’s just me. I like Dwayne Johnson as an entertainer but too bad he doesn’t have that actorly depth.

  15. theradonbee @

I’ve been a huge fan of Conan, books, comics, and I did LIKE the first movie. But I’ve never cared for Arnold as he was too big and slow to be Conan. In the books he is lean and muscular, fast and deadly. Arnold was just big. Momoa is a far better person to play Conan and I hope the movie is good because I think the casting of Conan was.

  16. tarek @

Well…I must confess that I begin to change my mind toward this Conan reboot. I’ll give it a chance.

  17. Dedpool @

Haters have lost this one, cause that was an amazingly epic trailer. Dark fantsy just the way Howard wrote it, and a hard R to boot! I am so happy my faith in this was rewarded.

  18. Kevin @

    Needs more barbarian…

  19. Joe @

Long time Conan fan… this looks horrible. Like some B movie on the Scy-Fy channel. Nothing Conan about it. I predict a bomb.

  20. SPS @

I didn’t even recognize Rose McGowan at first. Wonderful makeup on her. Admittly, I always picture Rose as Cherry Darling, so maybe that’s why I didn’t recognize her! LOL
And Lang looks terrific, absolutly menacing, I love it!

  21. Keir @

Kinda reminds of the clash of the titans preview, looked interesting, but ultimately sucked. I do hope it is good though.

  22. Bill Graham @

I never cared for the idea of rebooting CONAN, and the teaser was a little disheartening. But this, BESIDES some of the cheap special effects (that likely aren’t anywhere close to complete), has me intrigued. I am looking forward to it now and I think it has the right tone and feel.

Some people are hating on Momoa because of the way he looks. Meh. I think some of the action scenes were a bit unique and played into Conan’s strength as a barbarian. Sex, violence, epic fights with crazy creatures and lots of swords. Keep that mixture and I am sold.

One problem? Who the hell taught the woman at the end how to say Conan? YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG!!!! He isn’t the talk show host…

  23. wev @

Nothing new here. Looks better than i feared but still very meh…
