The UK trailer for Marcus Nispel’s Conan the Barbarian reboot has been released. This new look at the film was apparently put together by someone with severe ADD, as you’re really not able to make out much of anything besides lots and lots of fighting and yelling. The previous trailer was kind of intriguing (save for the terrible, terrible music), but whether Nispel’s take is going to capture the cheesy fun of the original or squander in self-seriousness is still yet to be determined.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film stars Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman, Rose McGowan, Rachel Nichols and Stephen Lang. Conan the Barbarian opens in 3D on August 19th.

Here’s the trailer (via Facebook):

Here’s the official synopsis:

A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.

  1. Something about Jason Momoa playing Conan always turned me off, but I wasn’t able to point out specifically what it was, and it just came to me as I watched this trailer. He has the exact same eyebrows as Vanilla Ice.

  2. “whether Nispel’s take is going to capture the cheesy fun of the original or squander in self-seriousness is still yet to be determined.”

You don’t remember the 1982 film starting off with a Nietzsche quote? With dozens of Kurosawa, Kobayashi and Eisenstein homages and heavy infusion of eastern mysticism?

What Taranaich said is so true.

“Cheesy fun of the original”… come on.

The quality of the first Conan movie lies in its nostalgia, ruthlessness and personal drama. All of it expressed with really few words, just awesome scenes and pure music.

Momoa would be a perfect Conan, but i really dread Nispell’s direction and the music thy will use.

  3. Considering that Marcus Nispel has *never* made a good movie, I can’t say I have any hopes for this one at all.
