First Trailer for NBC’s DC Comics Adaptation CONSTANTINE

     May 11, 2014

Fresh off the news that it will air on Friday nights at 10pm this fall, NBC has released the first Constantine trailer for the DC Comics adaptation.  Based on the long-running comics series Hellblazer, this new take on the character (played by Matt Ryan) sees him working as a supernatural detective protecting the world from dark forces.  Initially he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when the daughter (Lucy Griffiths) of one of his oldest friends is targeted by demons, he decides to team up with her and go demon hunting.  Based on this first look, the show appears to mix the supernatural elements with some good-natured humor, making it a swell Friday fit alongside Grimm—much better than that supernatural series’ current companion, the dark and twisted Hannibal.

Hit the jump to watch the Constantine trailer.  Neil Marshall (The Descent) directed the pilot, and Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist) serves as executive producer alongside David S. Goyer.  The series also stars Harold Perrineau (Lost) and Charles Halford (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).  Constantine will debut on NBC this fall.

Here’s the official synopsis for Constantine:

Based on the wildly popular  DC Comics series “Hellblazer,” seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.

co-worker’s sister makes $76 hourly on the internet . She has been without a
job for 6 months but last month her payment was $20399 just working on the
internet for a few hours. original site Fiscalpost.COM

      • Fuck you

That’s because your co-worker’s sister makes her living performing donkey shows online. Seriously, i don’t know anybody who would do the things she does to her anus for a $1,000,000/ hr, let alone $76. I think she seriously needs help. And not just because she ran out of lube during last night’s show and had to call 911 while the webcam was still running. I would’ve called for help myself, but i was too busy jerking off.

  • lobtaylor

I like the visuals but the dialogue sucks. I doubt this will last long on Friday timeslot like this.

    • Heather

All the footage is from the pilot. Pilot episodes are notoriously heavy on exposition, quick character intros, and having to establish the tone and world of the show.

    • monkeypaws

grimm is similar to this and has done really well in the friday slot and with it being the lead-in, the fans of that type of show are already tuned in for more of the same, I can see alot of new fans of constantine

      • larktag

Grimm is a crap show with crap acting and crap writing, it they cant do better with Constantine it will be a shame, because its a great story that deserves better.

      • Lex Walker

Yeah, people forget that just because a show is one of very few that fills a niche, it doesn’t mean the audience needs to forgive it for some genuinely poor writing. Just look at X-Files (seasons 1-6) or a good chunk of Fringe – good story and dialogue, and a strong mythology without any compromise.

    Looks cool.

Friday nights is not giving this show a chance. Yes the target audience probably won’t have much of a social life for Fridays but Fridays are always a ratings nightmare.

    • Maude

I made this comment on the NBC scheduling article…..

It has always seemed like the “death slot”, but NBC has recently put it’s darker/genre themed shows on Friday, and BOTH have been renewed for another season (Grimm and Hannibal). Constantine will make a fine companion to Grimm.

      • Leo Spaceman

Ya I saw it. I commented here and you replied. You commented there with the same thing and I replied with the same thing.

      • Lex Walker

Whoaaa….it’s like the same conversation happening in parallel universes, man. I’m like totally tripping out, bro.

  • Daz

Doesn’t look too bad… As has been said, the dialogue might be a little dodgy, but that’s something that can be improved over time, as both writing and delivery gets better as characters become more fleshed-out (Angel is a good, similar example). Whether it’ll have that time to improve is another question.

weird he doesn’t smoke… anyway, looks like an interesting show.

  • Steven

    Looks better than Gotham imo.

    @ 0:45

So, I guess this takes place in Atlanta?

  • LEM

It looks like a network show.

  • LEM

Why didn’t they just call it “Hellblazer”? It’s a much more interesting title, especially for those unfamiliar with the material. I also thought Guillermo Deltoro was working on a “Justice League Dark” movie but I guess that stalled.

    • MEL

Probably because of the same reason the movie was called “Constantine”. It is easy to confuse “Hellblazer” with “Hellraiser”.

      • LEM

My fault,I forgot networks cater to idiots. I will give you a virtual thumbs up as penance.

  • MJ

God save us from these dumbass shows.

  • Amanda

I think the trailer was really odd, and makes the show look cheaply made. I’ll watch it, but this doesn’t exactly make it likely for people to watch.

  • alk

I actually REALLY dig the casting of the two leads and for the most part it looks interesting. BUT. Two things: Harold Perrineau(the black dude from Lost) ruins it for me. And the special effects looks like low budget green screen studio crap. If they’re gonna attempt ambitious action scenes, they might as well have the budget to back it up for believability. That and Harold’s acting is atrocious in this. i’ll give this a shot but yea…depends majorly.

I have a perhaps somewhat unfair prejudice against Welsh accents, so that might colour my opinion, but this guy doesn’t seem great at least from this trailer. Of course he may get a lot better as the show goes on but I think they should have went with the Liverpool/London accent.

    • Aquartertoseven

      How about neither.

  • Tony Wesh

I really hope it is not a Case of the Week type series like Supernatural,or it’s gonna get boring pretty fast

    • LEM

I’m amazed Supernatural is going into season 10. They seem to just be coasting from one inane plot device to the next.

  • The Destroyer

Well, he actually looks, sounds, and acts like Constantine, unlike Keanu Reeves, who looked, sounded, and acted like Keanu Reeves.

  • eternalozzie

There is some terrible dialog in there … this won’t last long.
