Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion, and it’s slightly terrifying. The film centers on a deadly virus outbreak, and at the beginning of the trailer the whole thing seems kinda silly (see: 1995’s Outbreak), but then the enormity of it hits and...well, you'll see. With this being one of Soderbergh's last efforts before retirement, combined with the incredible cast he's assembled, Contagion has the makings of a fantastic thriller. This one was already high on my "most-anticipated" list, but after this trailer it has definitely jumped up towards the top.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film stars Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Lawrence Fishbourne, Bryan Cranston, Demitri Martin and Elliott Gould. Contagion opens September 9th.

Here's the synopsis:

"Contagion" follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.
